Only ongoing International Space Station cooperation will continue through the freeze in relations, UPI reports citing a NASA memo.
This is fucking stupid. Proper space research can only be carried out through international cooperation, especially when the agencies are on a tight budget like that. Why do we have to slow down scientific progress just because Putin is acting like an asshole?
Seriously, what the fuck does this have to do with the United States?
Seriously, what the fuck does this have to do with the United States?
We are the world police and hamper unrelated scientific progress to spread freedom... or something like that.
We are the world police and hamper unrelated scientific progress to spread freedom... or something like that.
Its punishing Russia for what it did. Just it has a slight downside. Although serious question, apart from the ISS travel what cooperation do NASA and the Russians actually do?
wooa what. i didn't think we would go a full blown 2010:odyssey two over this, what next russia orders the ROS to detach from the ISS?
We have a science blockade on China too with NASA, they're afraid of China stealing tech, both situations are really dumb.
Its punishing Russia for what it did. Just it has a slight downside. Although serious question, apart from the ISS travel what cooperation do NASA and the Russians actually do?
we send astronauts up on their rockets, so we have to train in their schools, we mutually help each other develope probes, rovers, hardware ect... and we share research, also critically we coordinate launches so nobody's accidentally bumping into each other up there
Seriously, what the fuck does this have to do with the United States?
Well you see, Europe has a continent as fuck all for power projection and because they're dumbasses when it comes to diverisifying resources portfolios it can easily be squeezed for more money, or even threatened to have its economy collapses since it still uses fossil fuels for a main source of energy. Why did I say that? Because every time someone tries to squeeze them, Something Something NATO is spoken, and like a demon, the USA is summoned forth and like, "Yeah sure, use our stuff free of charge because we already fund half your shit." That's why we're fucking involved. Its not World Police bullshit, its because Europe can't project any sort of power to keep its resources cheap. Its why when Libya happened, you needed our aircraft carriers. And France needed our C130s Hercules to get its troops and shit into Mali.
We have a science blockade on China too with NASA, they're afraid of China stealing tech, both situations are really dumb.
ya that blockade came in the 90s and china's space program back then looked more like NK's today, now though theres no reason to keep it in place since everybody else works with china, the only thing we're allowed to share with them is the hardware to dock with each other, so if china needed to ever dock to the ISS for some emergency or we needed to launch a rescue mission, then we could. unfortunatly its not NASA who decides this, its congress and well... do i need to go further

This could be a good thing. Maybe it'll kick off another Space Race! /sarcasm :suicide:
We have a science blockade on China too with NASA, they're afraid of China stealing tech, both situations are really dumb.
Can't we just denounce them if we catch one of their spies?
And then Russia says No more flights to the ISS for you then. The ISS is now ours.
Its punishing Russia for what it did. Just it has a slight downside. Once SLS is done NASA can wash their hands of ROSCOSMOS if need be....not that I particularly agree with it given the scientific nature of both organizations.

Purely in the interest of science they should just carry on as normal.

But Europe's main priority now is trying to find other ways to supply itself so all this Russia shit won't last long

Will be doing it by 2017. Could do it now, but NASA's requirements and qualifications are extremely strict and time consuming. They're scheduled to do pad abort and launch abort tests this year. SLS and Orion won't be ready till 2017, and the first flight of the Orion capsule is a robotic trip around the moon. First manned flight will be the 2021 asteroid mission. ISS comes down in 2024-2028. Don't count on NASA ever flying astronauts to it again. Not to mention using a Super heavy launcher to put people in LEO would be an enormous waste. [editline]2nd April 2014[/editline] Actually the first test flight of the Orion is in 2014 on top of a Delta IV. Still no plans to put people in it until 2021 though.
What if they set up the bomb on the ISS?

If they were funded properly SpaceX wouldn't stand a snowballs chance in hell of competing with them.
I find myself performing the face palm more and more over this dumb fucking shit. The US needs to back off, let that part of the world handle itself, and not worry about getting involved or making a stink over anything. Until Putin starts mass invading countries and declaring himself World chancellor, doing shit like this ONLY hurts the scientific community. Sometimes i swear there is more to this and a lot of it is drumming up a cause for conflict.
"Lets hurt individuals over what a corrupted government is doing!" US government is no better than the Russian government, with it's childish bullshit.
You know those Mi-17 helicopters you guys bought for billions of dollars? Cooperation was suspended with those so now they'll rot in the middle of an airfield which would probably be taken over by the Taliban when NATO leaves.

They have more important ground to break.

So, what would happen if the USA and Russia went to war while they both had crew on the ISS? Is Space Neutral?
So, what would happen if the USA and Russia went to war while they both had crew on the ISS? Is Space Neutral?
Crack open the vodka and whiskey and watch the shit unfold on the ground.
So, what would happen if the USA and Russia went to war while they both had crew on the ISS? Is Space Neutral?
I think the crew would easily recognize they don't have any personal reasons to kill each other. It's not like they will receive orders to kill each other. Even if they do, what the fuck are their superiors going to do to enforce it? And what strategic value does taking over the ISS have at this point?
The russians already sort of keep to their portion and mind their own business on the ISS.
Its not like China's tried to steal our tech before, because it totally hasn't.
it was more like after 10 years of explosive rockets, some american engineer inspected their welding techniques and concluded they were idiots, then they bought /acquired the welding tech and suddenly had no more explosive rockets, in response congress panicked like they tended to in the90s, this was the same congress that brought you doma, dont ask, the religious protections acts, and many other pieces of junk that we are systematically dismantling. [editline]2nd April 2014[/editline]
So, what would happen if the USA and Russia went to war while they both had crew on the ISS? Is Space Neutral?
yes, and I dont think upon return they would hold the people as prisoners, they'd just return them quietly, course theoretically we could just have our astronauts not return and resupply them until the dragon or Boeing's capsule is ready
