They must have someone sitting there continuously refreshing the page on the dota 2 blog just to report on the number it shows.
Yet there is still no noticeable difference of ranking, or skill. No system to separate the people that are brand new, and have no clue what they're doing, compared to people who have been playing the game for a fair while.

Yes there is, there isn't a visible indication, however there is an mmr system which you can check in a roundabout manner.
Shouldn't we wait a few months before we pull out player counts? It just 'released' so naturally there's going to be a surge of new players. Whether they stay or not is another question.

Good thing this is about records and not how many players are gonna continue playing or not.
