NSW government considers drones for spotting sharks in waters off popular beaches

[QUOTE]The New South Wales Government is considering the use of drones to scan the water to prevent shark attacks.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Primary Industries has confirmed it is exploring the use of the military-style devices, but that the project is commercially sensitive.
Surf Lifesaving Australia has been conducting a drone trial on Queensland beaches, not to search for sharks, but to help spot swimmers in trouble where lifesavers are not available.

They'll probably just end up culling them like usually anyway, unfortunately.

WA is copping a bit of flak for that atm..
I'm actually not sure if NSW has done a cull recently. Though they still use nets which is just as bad.
Though I couldn't think of a better use for drones. Large sharks can be seen from the sky and if you could develop an unmanned system to identify a risk close to the beach you could evacuate the area before anyone is hurt.
