Future Shop closing all stores in Canada, some to become Best Buy
Dozens of Future Shop stores have been closed across Canada, its parent company Best Buy Canada Ltd. announced Saturday.

Two years ago, Best Buy spoke of how it had to adapt to a "changing retail landscape" where online stores were winning a greater share of the electronics market as it closed eight Future Shop and seven Best Buy big box stores across the country.
This doesn't really bother me considering they were both the same store with different branding. They had the same stock, the same deals at the same time, and were both run by the same company.
plus they always seem to be in very close proximity to each other.
Noooooooo
Futureshop has more PC related components
Bestbuy always has a lot more movies/phones/stereos and tv's
Do the comparison, they're nearly the same store but I avoid bestbuy for a reason
FINALLY
Future Shop is the biggest ripoff. I check their prices before Boxing day on on particular items and generally they are maybe, $5 $10 cheaper. But people go fucking NUTS when it's boxing day, the Future Shop in my city gets packed on Boxing Day, and I just want to scream in the store, "Wake up sheeple! Nothing is actually cheaper! You're all so fucking stupid!" People are so ignorant when it comes to electronics and will pay anything.
Best Buy is actually decently priced for a big-box electronic store in Canada.

over here in the US, best buy is the land of 100$ HDMI cables

one time i saw a radeon 5450 for 200$ still sitting on the shelves
Funny, in my city both stores are actually right beside each other.
Whenever I went to one store and it the item I wanted was out of stock, I just walked across to the other store and looked.

But Future Shop sounds cooler.

I remember going to future shop on boxing day hoping to get a few WiiU stuff cheaper... Nothing was on sale. They didn't even bother to put up "sale!" signs or anything lmao

There's apparently a reason for $100 hdmi cables but it's not just best buy that has them, it's an entire brand.

Rather than demolishing the future shop or selling the property, they should build a second best buy and have them mirror each other.

Double the stock, double the jobs. It was also good as a marketing strategy to have 2 stores open with different deals, since people will just end up going to the store with the lowest price because they think they're getting a sweet deal, and the company still makes money. But with the rise of online shopping people are beginning to realize that their deals are bullshit.

They should use the Future Shop buildings to bring back Zellers :(

Depends on the place. Here in Belleville, Future Shop is smaller.
I've never even seen a Futureshop that wasn't 100 yards away from a Best Buy. Everyone knew they're both owned by Best Buy but I'm surprised having both stores so close to each other lasted this long.
I hope our's becomes a Best Buy, otherwise a 4 minute drive becomes a 30 minute drive.
I lost confidence in Future Shop over 10 years ago when generic DVI cables (no Monster branding or anything) were $50, two channel ATA cables were $15 and LCD's were still basically fucking extortion.
Electronics just aren't the thing they used to be. You can get better deals somewhere else now.
The only reason I go to futureshop or bestbuy is to price-match stuff. I've always found everything to be cheaper online so I'd just price-match the in-store item with the online item and get an extra 10% off the difference. Plus I don't have to wait for shipping.
Not too broken up, they were a terrible store and everything was so overpriced it was insanity. I got something from there once because I got a $100 gift card and they tried to sell me a warranty because "the manufacturer's warranty is only 1 year". Get home, register it, the manufacturer's warranty was longer than theirs :v:

I've always wanted to shop at TSEB YUB
What's even funnier is that Future Shop price matched Best Buy, and vice versa. :v:
best buy is pretty shit most of the time really
geek squad is quite frankly a fraudulent business.
All the Future Shops I have been in for the past two years are all so terribly merchandized, I'm glad they're gone. All their stores looked like dirt whenever going into them, they never took care of the store.

They did the same thing as they did last year when they unexpectedly closed a bunch of Future Shops.
Suddenly Staples is the de facto tech store on the north shore of Vancouver :v:
I remember the local Future Shop having a Collector's Edition of Tabula Rasa sitting on the shelf for like a year after the MMO's plug was pulled. :v:

No. Come to the Staples store at park royal where I work.
My boss told me in the morning about it and I did not believe him. So I went to the front of the store and lo and behold it was closed with old people staring at the store entrance hoping it would open for them :v:
End of an era. Future shop was where my dad bought me my first graphics card, Last time I went to future shop was for a cd drive for my newly built computer. Needless to say my boss was not complaining about the new traffic to our store, and as a result bought us all pizza for lunch to celebrate!

That particular Future Shop is where I got my first graphics card and first (as in, mine) computer too.
Futureshop was a mess, and fraudulent as fuck, always trying to con the customer. Best Buy is a little bit better, but they do have less technical stuff.
