The American dollar is in bad need of a makeover. Thanks to the Dollar ReDe$ign Project, we may now have some options. Organized by creative strategy consultant Richard Smith, the Dollar ReDe$ign Project is soliciting ideas for the dollar bill of the future. "Our great 'rival', the Euro, looks so spanky in comparison it seems the only clear way to revive this global recession is to rebrand and redesign," the project notes on its website. Fisher started the project in with the intent of "trying to find a catalyst to restart our economy" he told Fox News. The recent competition is now closed, and voting ends on September 30. "This has touched people's hearts," Fisher said, and "people feel the dollar touches their lives." The leading vote-getter for this year's competition (pictured below) was submitted by British duo Dowling Duncan, which features a unique vertical design. Why a vertical format? "When we researched how notes are used we realized people tend to handle and deal with money vertically rather than horizontally," they note on the Dollar ReDe$ign Project's website. "You tend to hold a wallet or purse vertically when searching for notes. The majority of people hand over notes vertically when making purchases. All machines accept notes vertically. Therefore a vertical note makes more sense." Mark Gartland submitted the entry below, entitled "America Today." The $50 bill features (pictured below) Sacagawea, the native American Indian who acted as Lewis and Clark's interepreter and guide. Noting the "cosmetic drabness" of the current dollar bill, Gartland selected various historical icons from including Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln and President Obama to represent the "diverse fabric" of the U.S. Self-taught web designer Sean Flanagan submitted "Moving Forward, Looking Back," (below) which hews to many of "base color, size and orientation" of the classic dollar bill, but offers more than a few pleasant upgrades. Flanagan also utilized only American-designed typefaces and says his design would require at least "three different layers of solid ink," a preemptive strike against counterfeiting. If these money makeovers weren't enough, The Dollar ReDe$ign Project has even circulated a petition to get the U.S. government to seriously consider their ideas. Which of these designs is your favorite?
Wow. Source:http://news.yahoo.com/s/huffpost/721294
Obama on the $1 bill...really? Vertical design is kind of cool though.
Obama on the $1 bill...really?
:suicide:
bad bad bad
Don't like the look of the $20, which is easily the most common type of bill in day to day use for most currencies. The rest look alright, imo. Not so sure about Obama being on the $1, either.
i dont see the need for a remake over its fine the way it is
who cares its still money change it
The problem is that if they do this, every single machine that takes bills will need to be replaced/reprogrammed to read these new bills and then everybody will have to go exchange their bills and yada yada yada and it's a big fucking mess for nothing other than cosmetical value.
Just because Obama is black doesn't mean he deserves to be the face of the dollar bill, and so far he hasn't done anything tremendously amazing.
I'm not too hot about the vertical design dollars.
The vertical ones look like tickets or something.
I rather like the idea of putting the current president on the $1 dollar bill, and redesign it every time we have a new president.
They're positively hideous, not to mention all the refitting and machine swapping they would need to do to print this money and have it accepted by automatic machines. And why Obama on the first bill? He's done absolutely nothing as of yet, and he's only just finishing on his second year. Also, why change the current currency while they're fine just the way they are, "If it's not broken, why fix it?".
Those bills look like shit compared to the current ones.
Well, I still hope Obama isn't on the 1$ dollar bill, I believe that he is more of a symbolism of change, Since he hasn't done anything noticable that some previous presidents have done.
They look like space-age currency. I want it.
These bills look like Monopoly money, a fitting metaphor for the games Corporations play
Here's an idea: keep them the way they are
bad bad bad
Not good
this shit has got to be fake [editline]10:08PM[/editline] and im not even in the USA
The last one looks the best. Also, wouldn't changing who's on what dollar amount be kind of insulting? It's kind like saying "Fuck you, you're not important anymore" to our past leaders.
obama on the one dollar bill is like EXACTLY what the tea partiers expected
They look terrible..
I rather like the idea of putting the current president on the $1 dollar bill, and redesign it every time we have a new president.
Yeah, same.
I actually like the idea of a vertical currency, although I don't like some of the current designs or colors on them. It would be really cool and nice to have new bills, but it would be a logistical nightmare.
You guys should redesign your $1 bills so they are small, round, and made out of metal
Absolutely no to Obama on the bill. I'm relatively certain there's a law against putting a living President or ex-President on currency. The vertical bill makes sense though, as do the different sizes. Not too big on the colors, though. You know what, I might do my own designs.

Need a $5? Just grab the blue one. $20? Go for the green one. Simple.
Expected this to be the actual new bills.
They look too goofy and its such a huge change. It would take some time to get used to and all the old bills would suddenly feel obsolete. Its better as it is now and we won't have to go through the trouble of doing away with the old bills.
