I heard some pretty terrible things about this game. Roosterteeth was listening to fans and telling people this would be in EA until the fall. They pissed people off when They removed the models they use officially for the show and decided to add gimped chinese knockoffs in a recent update.

They also made a really big promise to people that more playable characters would be added over the course of development. Never happened.

I will say this about the changed character models, apparently it hurt performance a lot to use them so that's why they made the change. I still think this needed more time in the oven, though, and hopefully this doesn't mean they're dropping support for big updates.

Wouldn't be surprising, RWBY may not be the most graphically detailed show but the fact that a show doesn't need to render in real time means they typically go for extremely high poly counts. They still could have done a way better job of downgrading that than what they did though, that is a pretty heinous change

Actually the character models are lower poly than most of the darksouls playermodels. Their poor optimization comes instead from the sheer number of textures used as well as said texture's resolution.
Most of which are just solid blocks of color.
Makes me wonder why they didn't just crush them all onto one uv.
It is a fun game I have sunk some hours in, leveling up and stuff is great, sorta like alien swarm.
Aside from the obvious button mashing nature (which I personally didn't really mind),
the end boss really is a letdown, not entertaining and boring you to death.
The multiplayer gameplay is pretty cool, especially with teamwork-assists and revives and also increasing difficulty per player,
though I advise anyone to stay away from singleplayer.
Players who already have max level whoring for the artefacts (which gives XP that they can't use)
and not getting assist XP even though you buttered in damage like crazy, are kinda irritating at times.

Considering that the models from the show looked like they belonged in a PS2 game, I'm surprised they had to introduce lower poly models.

Because that would require effort and modifying models designed for Poser.
Easier to just hire someone to make "better" versions than to convert models designed for MMD which are then dragged into Poser.
