• How to stop my dog from scratching his wound until I can get a cone?
    22 replies, posted
So one of my dogs was playing around and he got wounded somehow, I've already cleaned it up with soap and water, put some betadine on it. My problem is my dog likes to bite or scratch it and I have to constantly keep watch to make sure he doesn't, it's the middle of the night and I can't buy a cone until tomorrow, I tried wrapping a handkerchief around it but it just slides off, I don't have any medical tape around so that isn't an option. Any help?
Two words: bondage gear.
Just give him like a LITTLE punch on the head everytime he does it Do not hit him with your fist but like with 2 fingers. And just say NO! He will understand that he should not do it eventually. Atleast, this is how I trained my dog to stop licking/biting his wounds. Good luck
Where on the dog's body is the wound?

if the dog wants to get a nasty infection then so be it. Or just restrain it somehow.
if the dog wants to get a nasty infection then so be it. Or just restrain it somehow.
That's not helping, nor was it even funny. I know you have an issue with dogs, but this is pushing it. On topic: There's very little you can do except tie your dog up somewhere and restrain his back legs at least.
But I can't hurt my baby.
It isn't hurting. It's more like snapping him out of it. Like just with a kid. Once he does something bad, you snap him out of it. Don't hit him hard, just give him a SOFT tick, like EY WAKE UP
if the dog wants to get a nasty infection then so be it.
Looks like computer advice isn't the only thing I shouldn't ask from you. Anyway he seems to have calmed down a bit, looks like he understands that I don't want him doing that, I'll still watch him for a bit and try to find something to restrain him with. I'm still open for suggestions though.
Having three rowdy dogs I deal with stuff like this a lot. And really there isn't much you can do except keep a close eye on him and give him a little bap on the head every time he tries to do it, basically what Rozelsky said. You just gotta keep an eye on him and stop him every time he tries to scratch it.

It's not a punch, but a firm tap in the snout or something of the like. It's mostly the verbal NO you need to get across. Need to make it firm enough for him to understand. He'll still do it, but it might help. That's about all you can do.
people who rated you dumb are idiots
Well, given the word "punch" (even though it was meant differently) is the 7th word in, I'm sure that's all it takes for people to tl;dr given it's in the context of an animal
people who rated you dumb are idiots
It was about his choice of words, "punch" isn't the word you're gonna want to use when talking about disciplining your animals. Specially since the OP is from the Phillipines and could possibly misunderstand what he meant.
TBH I am equally fluent in English and Filipino, hell most of the time I find English easier to use, and it should be considered a second language to me.

A liberal application of duct tape should do.
Don't you have any medical bandage? Not medical tape but just bandage so you can cover the wound? And yeah, basically what's been said already. Give him/her a firm bap on the snout. That should at least keep him/her away from poking too much.
Haha sorry guys, I indeed meant a little tap. I did not meant "punch". English is not my 1st language. Xcuse me for that.
Well this is late now I'm sure, but for anyone else interested, depending on the dogs size, some benadryl might help, it's an anti histamine and tends to stop itching. at the very least it'll make the dog drowsy and maybe fall asleep so he won't be itching :v:
