• First Build - Need Help

I'm going to attempt to make a desktop rather then pour my money into Alienware, or such, and need help putting it together. So far from what I've gathered from all the benchmarks, and logistics I'll be using a Radeon HD 5870 graphics card, and website below shows a list of them. http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&leg=&psn=000101&gid=3&sgid=591 For the chasis I'm thinking of a Thermaltake (But again, a pretty big noob at desktops.) which are on the site below. http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Category.aspx?C=1121 Should I be using an Asus motherboard? http://www.asus.com/entryflash.htm i7 Intel Processor (No idea what kind.) My total budget is about $5,500 give or take. Sorry for asking so many questions, but I really need help building a desktop, and facepunch's PC Building looks really promising for help. You can change anything, I just need help picking parts.
It would be really hard making a 5.5k build, and even harder to justify it. Heres a good 1.9 k build http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=17970707

And I forgot to mention, it's for gaming, and I usually like to play relatively high if not max settings in games like, "S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat" Also, I want to experiment with crossfire for radeon cards. Edit: Forgot to add, I've heard that GIGABYTE doesn't make the best motherboards, is this true? Edit: Is this build better then the one FHamster posted? Dude im loving the GTX 480 in that build but the rest of it is pointless A pc building kit? im presuming you have screwdrivers. Gigabyte make great motherboards
There's better SSD's out there. For example THIS one is way faster.

Suggestions on what the GPU should be?
I don't know if you give a shit, but the harddrive is apparently $5 cheaper on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001GQYYSQ?tag=invihand-20 Also, the coolermaster fan is quite a bit cheaper ($35) here, but I have never bought from these guys so I can't comment on their reliability. One or the other.
Well I would say save yourself $100+ and get a HD 5870, the 480 is only marginally better. Not $100+ better. [editline]07:37PM[/editline]
Get a samsung spintpoint f3 HDD
And this.
GIGABYTE MOBOs are better than ASUS i7 920 and the i7 930 are exactly the same chips, except i7 930 costs 10 dollars more for 1+ multiplier and the i7 920 comes with a free HDMI cable. Your budget allows you better HSF than the 212+. Get the megahalem. Your budget allows you to crossfire 5870s or sli GTX480s.
He hasn't listed a reason for that much power... so that is just stupid.
He said his budget is 5.5k. If we followed your philosophy, the entire build should be scraped for an i5 system.

However in order to utilize SLI480's he would need to be playing Metro2033 at 2560x1600 with 16xAA. I play metro2033 on a single 470 at 1080p max settings. OP are you using a 30 inch? OP do you want to use all the money when you could easily put WC in it and make it perfectly silent(Something that would be more beneficial than would another 480)

This will run pretty much every game out there right now without any problems.: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=13154305 Hold onto the rest of your money and spend it on shit like upgrades later on. Or do fun things with friends. If you want, Crossfire the 5870s and get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139010

Also if you want a better case that is similar to the HAF 932, the HAF 942 comes out on June 15th, and is only a bit more money.
