Well, the great debacle is over.
SEGA has now officially bought Relic Entertainment and the rights to the Company of Heroes franchise. A Relic employee has just confirmed it. What does this mean for Relic and everyone’s favorite WWII RTS? Probably not a whole lot at the moment. Most likely this will simply result in a quick, painless re-branding of the studio, allowing them to continue work on Company Of Heroes 2 right off the bat.
There were rumors (albeit unconfirmed) of Company of Heroes 2 being cancelled earlier in the week. This is doubtfully, especially considering the money already been sunk into the game, and the progress they have made in development. The game is rapidly approaching their beta test, factoring in the fact that it is already up for pre-order on Steam. Cancelling at this state would simply make no sense, for Relic Entertainment or SEGA, so I think it is safe to say that that rumor has been crushed.
SEGA acquiring Relic Entertainment has also officially turned SEGA into the premiere RTS publisher in the world, with both Relic Entertainment and Creative Assembly working for them. With SEGA already acquiring Warhammer rights for Creative Assembly in December, this would also allow them to bring Relic back into the Dawn of War fold. Think of the possibilities!
well that was fast
[insert gotta go fast joke here]
Not sure how I feel about this. They seem to let The Creative Assembly do what they want but SEGA has kind of ruined many of their other franchises.
Still not confirmed at this point; it's been rumoured since the auction and this source is a Relic employee who could just be reacting to the rumour. Seems likely though given how well The Creative Assembly do.
Sega should mail EA a dish of shit.
so send them a few copies of their own games?

Perhaps they will do the same with Relic. All we can do is hope.
I don't really know what to think about this.
People are so anxious when it comes to studios being bought by major companies. I would not get my hopes to high. I don't think that we will see a Warhammer Total War or anything like that at all.

It's a good thing if it turns out to be true. Sega have lots of experience with The Creative Assembly and they've certainly treated the Total War games differently than their other IPs. I imagine they would give Relic the same opportunities to shine.
Provided this is true - I have great faith in this going well, as long as it doesn't end up down the sink.
It is true

Company of Heroes: Racing
SEGA only ruin their own stuff like Sonic. But games they publish are mighty fine, like the total war series. So could've been far worse.

I guess they're getting into actually making games now? I know they have Deep Silver, but I think all they did was publish.

"The Creative Assembly is going from legionaries to Lizardmen, having obtained the rights to develop Warhammer fantasy games. Sega announced today that it and subsidiary Creative Assembly have entered into a multi-title licensing deal with miniature makers Games Workshop, with a dev team already working to get the studio's first Warhammer game out for next year. Creative Assembly's license is only for the Warhammer fantasy line and not for the Warhammer 40K universe, as clarified to Eurogamer by both Sega and Warhammer 40K license holder THQ." -- december 9th, 2012
