Awesome. So API when? [editline]31st July 2014[/editline] Or do they not care :v:

Notable changes: The surface of the sun is no longer incorrectly made of cheese. Excuse me?
Minecraft snapshot 14w31a reworks the world border
Why can't they just make it so the ends of the world are connected to each other? Seems like a better solution (in theory) than just slapping on a wall that prevents players from going any further.
It took them a year to add a night sensor based on the day sensor.
have they given up caring about the game
Why can't they just make it so the ends of the world are connected to each other? I thought the world was infinite? What "end of the world" did they remove that feature or something? I haven't played since a little after infdev, so what do I know. Edit: Oh it was explained the in post above, cool.
Their code would shit itself, it's not designed for that.
The portal gun mod allowed for "portals". Perhaps a closed world would just revolve around each border being a portal to its opposite.

Edit: Oh it was explained the in post above, cool.
Infinte worlds on finite resources, sounds amazing, the wiki says minecraft could damage the OS or even hardware because of overflows/underflows.
Infinte worlds on finite resources, sounds amazing, the wiki says minecraft could damage the OS or even hardware because of overflows/underflows.
In Java? Not going to happen. It could fill the HDD though.
Infinte worlds on finite resources, sounds amazing, the wiki says minecraft could damage the OS or even hardware because of overflows/underflows.
What are you talking about? The worlds ARE infinite, they generate as you go. If you explore a bit the world takes up less space than if you explore a lot. As far as doing damage to anything, that's so incredibly wrong I won't go into it.
Their code would shit itself, it's not designed for that.
That is probably because they didn't do that good of a job in world/chunk handling in the first place. It should technically be possible to render the chunks from the opposite end of the map, then move the player to that side of the map as they cross into it.
The world border item is meant for servers and adventure maps to confine players to an area, not to literally sanction off the vanilla game world
I probably should have meant in it's default state (0,0 Center, 60mil Length). The World Border doesn't seem like the best solution to prevent players from going into the World Boundary / Far Lands. It's a literal wall that says "You cannot cross over here because the game overflows and can cause serious issues if you do". It technically is a solution but not a pretty one.
The "infinite" world ends at X/Z 29,999,999.
Which is essentially infinite for all intents and purposes, equivalent of 3.6 billion sq km.
The "infinite" world ends at X/Z 29,999,999.
good luck walking there without getting bored or ever, even you are right but also, wrong in a way. It's finite but easily big enough to be called limitless. You can fill entire countries the size of America (South to north) worth of buildings into the game and still have TONS of room. No ones ever going to run out of room with that amount of space, it's not practical.

Add in mountains and rivers, etc and its much more. And that's assuming your hard drive doesn't fill up first.
are you a programmer? the world/chunk handling as of now, and you're not thinking of all aspects of this, what about block updates, pistons moving blocks, traces, etc...
It wouldn't be trivial, but it wouldn't be impossible either, especially if the code had been designed with that in mind from the start.
are you a programmer? because it sure of hell doesn't sound like it.
Yes I am. Albeit a little rusty for the past year and half. It is possible to do it, it won't be easy but it can be done.
It wouldn't be trivial, but it wouldn't be impossible either, especially if the code had been designed with that in mind from the start.
Well it wasn't, and i don't blame notch at all for that. It wasn't meant for that and it's not even an issue.
Well it wasn't, and i don't blame notch at all for that. It wasn't meant for that and it's not even an issue.
Uh yeah that's exactly my point, I didn't place blame on anyone for anything, I simply stated the facts as plainly as possible and even pointed out that it wouldn't be a simple solution. Nice knee-jerk defense to my answering of his question though, you should read more closely next time.
About 17 days(From the center out) by the really fast minecarts that were in the snapshot a couple months back.
Traveling at that speed (20 m/s) for 17 days would take you 3/4 around the earth
It took them a year to add a night sensor based on the day sensor.
Why would you need a night sensor when there's a day sensor, you could just make an inverter circuit
Minecraft worlds are finite, there's a point where the world generator breaks itself and you can't go further, at x or z 30,000,000
Why would you need a night sensor when there's a day sensor, you could just make an inverter circuit
you know there's actually an article to read right
And daylight sensors now have two states: a day mode and a night mode. So you can now invert their signal with a click, rather than complex torch arrangements. It’s not a revolution in redstone, but it will neaten up circuits.
"Complex" [T]http://pointlessmatters.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/2011-08-30_23-52-53.png[/T]
So that mod API thing they've been promising for YEARS is basically never going to happen? Mojang are the kings of making people wait an eternity for pissant incremental updates that somehow still manage to fuck up the entire mod scene for months afterwards.
Why would you need a night sensor when there's a day sensor, you could just make an inverter circuit
This is actually really useful for a design I made. It was a lamp-post that automatically switched on based on the time, but the problem was that the circuitry for the inverter made it huge and clunky. This will make it considerably more simple. [editline]31st July 2014[/editline]
"Complex" [T]http://pointlessmatters.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/2011-08-30_23-52-53.png[/T]
Still more complex than... nothing.
