I googled but it's one of those things where it's all $30 or doesn't work or whatever. What do people use for this?
Animation shop.
But that cost money.
Search harder! Damnit. Google serach virtualdub.
I want to be able to crop it and choose only a certain section of the video as well.

I found virtualdub but it doesn't support mp4 and seems kinda heavyweight, I thought there'd be something simpler. I'll give it a whirl.
Well all in all I use Virtual dub to separate the frames, paint to crop, paint.net for transparency, then I make the .gif with Animation shop.
Yeah. It's not all easy as pie. Just suck it up and do it the hard way.
Damn, this is what always happens when I try to do this. I download something, it doesn't work, I download something else, it's not right. I post on FP, that doesn't help. Eventually I ask myself why the fuck I am doing this and give up.
All done!

You'd think there would be an easy way to do this, animated gifs are really common and old.
Yeah. Just no one goes around making a wizard to do it all for you. Software's whats missing.
I just make a really short clip, extract the frames, and make the GIF in photoshop. Its a pain in the ass, but it works.
