With sixty employees at Lancashire brewery Thwaites facing the axe as the firm looks to relocate, workers appear to have hit back – by altering the neon ‘THWAITES’ sign on the town centre building to read ‘TWATS’. The sign is mounted on a giant tower and is visible across Blackburn and much of East Lancashire.
http://politicalscrapbook.net/2014/01/brewery-workers-facing-sack-alter-thwaites-sign-to-read-twats/
It's a shame they're being made redundant, and it's also a shame that the companies business is declining - not really the companies fault though.
I can see that from my house - I'm sad that I missed it :v:
Seems to be a long tradition for employees facing the axe to misbehave, I remember this last year when HMV was in administration
What kinda name is Thwaites anyway
What kinda name is Thwaites anyway
Thwaite is a place name element.
The name is usually from Old Norse thveit (also written þveit), but sometimes from Old Danish thwēt, both meaning "clearing" or "meadow". The name does not necessarily indicate a place of Scandinavian foundation, because it is often found in combination with Middle English or Old German personal names.
Pity they couldn't incorporate Flowery in the name. :v:
I saw it. I had no idea that it was intentional
Beautiful
I suppose it could have been worse - The Queen is coming in April :v: I just had a check, and the sign still appears to be off? Oops.
I can't really blame them, whenever I've been laid off I've always been more furious than sad.
God damnit. The only news that comes out of Lancashire is stuff like this. Also my surname includes thwaite. bollocks.
