None of my steam games are working after getting a new 64 bit rig

I just got myself a new rig for Christmas, but so far things have been less than stellar. None of my steam games work, and I think it's due to installing 64-Bit Windows 7. Fallout 3 gives me an unknown error, Killing Floor just doesn't start, and L4D2 crashes on startup. I have tried running the games in compatibility mode, but with Steam acting as an intermediate, it fails to work. Here are my specs:
Proc: AMD Athlon II X3 4356 (~2.9 GHz)
Video: Nvidia GeForce 8300
Ram: 4096MB.
Windows 7 64-Bit.

Have you updated your video card drivers?

Yes. All of my drivers are up-to-date.
It's not a 64 bit issue, drivers are most likely.
Have you installed Direct X ?

Yes.
Direct X (11) comes with Windows 7 anyhow, so you wouldn't really need to install it again.... What version of Windows 7 is it by the way? Is it 'Basic' by any chance?

Basic doesn't have aero does it?
It's most likely a driver error, I have about the same specs with the only difference being integrated graphics and 6gb of ram, but I have no problem with my steam games...
@Above: Why do you have 6GB RAM and integrated graphics?
@OP: Fallout 3 will probably lag on that GPU anyway. You could have get a 5750 for about 100$. And from what you described it's definitely a driver error. Are you sure you have the newest drivers? Did you download them from the Nvidia website and install them or did you install them from the CD that came with the PC?

It's what came with the terrible pre-built :v:
I doubt it has to do with the OS being 64 bit. Try reinstalling Steam.
Let me clarify, I was indicating to Home Premium (sometimes reffered to as Home 'Basic'), not the windows 7 starter/basic package.
