This seems great, I vaguely remember this anime running on Sci Fi on Monday nights. I wonder how it will translate to live-action. Or maybe they'll stick with animation.
I'm cautiously optimistic for this, i don't know much about the works of del toro or steven thompson but i loved monster, hopefully they won't screw this up.
i'd rather he get around to making that h.p. lovecraft movie
i'd rather he get around to making that h.p. lovecraft movie
If I recall correctly he still wants to do that, but he's personally shelved it until he can work with backers who won't pressure him to make it pg-13 and get rid of the cosmic horror angle.

And Prometheus came out, which had some similar plot points and, according to Del Toro, some scenes that were way too similar.
When I heard Monster I thought that the energy drink was finally getting it's own TV show.
Monster is an amazing manga, and a fairly decent TV Anime. I wonder this would work out, but it looks promising.
They should get Liam O'Brien to live VA/Dub Tenma 'cos I wouldn't be able to fully enjoy it without that raspy as fuck voice. Still, I'm pretty excited nevertheless.

There's no reason not to. The manga is realistic enough to work as a live action.
I hope this goes well. Monster is amazing.
Thought Monster was Parasyte

Yeah thats pretty much spot on. He wanted to make a movie based off Mountains of Madness. Just set in modern day. That's funnily enough how Pacific Rim came into existance as well.
Damn it Del Toro, you're suppose to be working on that proper Haunted Mansion movie

Ew

I thought that's what Crimson Peak was supposed to be?
Monster is pretty nice, this could turn out okay

Yeah, but the last thing Thompson wrote was a godly episode of Sherlock, so maybe he's gotten better
I saw a bit of the anime series based on this. It had a really nice concept and was very interesting for a while, but like many anime series it had way too fucking many episodes than it actually needed to tell a good story and I stopped watching it because there was simply too much fucking sidetracking and irrelevant shit. Imo, Anime series should basically be a maximum of 25 episodes if it's story driven and not like a sitcom with a new story every episode.
I'm very happy to see Guillermo Del Toro take on this... he's fantastic at setting a good atmosphere, and I'm sure he would do fucking wonders with a story like this. I'm sure the manga version probably has a lot less filler episodes shit that ruined the anime.

I don't know if I really want to be optimistic about this, considering this is a manga to live action TV series

The Manga is also pretty fucking long.
Finish Pacific Rim first please. That movie looks badass.

Most anime is actually pretty short, though there are some extremely long ones
Loved the anime. And since it's HBO, I'm optimistic that it'll be done right if they pick it up for a full series.
