The two-minute silent film Match de Prestidigitation (“conjuring contest”) from 1904 was found on a reel given to the archives by an anonymous donor, labelled as another film. “The reel was titled ‘Les Transmutations Imperceptibles’, which is the name of another work by Méliès. But our specialist immediately realised it was another film,” archives spokeswoman Jana Ulipova said. “Based on detailed analysis and research at the national library of France, among other places, we can say with certainty that it is Match de Prestidigitation, up to now considered lost.”
Sources: IndieWire The Guardian
Now put it on youtube!
Yeah, shouldn't this be public domain?
I was just talking about early films lost through the years. Who knows, maybe someday a copy of that film about the Titanic filmed in 1912, starring a survivor from the sinking, where she wears the clothes she wore that night, will turn up.
Maybe London After Midnight will turn up.
the sad part is if copyright laws werent so fucked up in the US most of our earlier stuff would have survived instead of rotting to death on musty shelves in hollywood vaults
Maybe London After Midnight will turn up.
That would be the motherfucking tits to be honest.
I would love to have the money to spend the time finding long lost films and other forms of media.
