I've no idea how to do this, seeing as I've never had a reason to. But this year, the dipshit IT person thought it would be cool to put the classic theme on all of the laptops, and on EVERY FUCKING COMPUTER IN THE SCHOOL set to have the classic start menu, which is unusable like hell.
Now that I'm done with my rage, I'd love to know how I can enable all of these features. I can get into command prompt, because they never bothered to disable batch files. Other than that I just about everything that can be restricted, is.
Thanks FP!
Edit:
Rate me dumb when you don't even know what I'm talking about / can't help but you're cool because you can rate and leave.
What version of Windows??
(I'm assuming windows XP)
There is nothing wrong with the classical Theme
Classic theme kicks Luna's ass.
The issue is that the classic taskbar and start menu have no ability to easily access things. You have to use the desktop, which isn't easily accesible when you have to minimize out of things, and like me, constantly forget the shortcut for minimizing all windows. It's extremely limiting and annoying.
And yes, XP. We don't get upgrades until like 7+ years. Thank god I don't have that long.
Put Ubuntu or XP on a memory stick / external HDD. Boot from it, and have all your own stuff on there.
Worked for me when I was in school.
I already formatted my Ubuntu stick and teachers would flip their shit if they saw me on it. I'll check the rules before I try that. I would much rather just run something simple to enable customization to my liking.
The Theme is awesome, but the Start Menu sucks...
I feel for you...
:nyoron:
Not to sound impatient, but usually a thread like this winds up with people arguing over the theme or the fact that the person in question wishes to change the computer restrictions and say that it's wrong of them. I'd love for this to be one of a kind in that the question is answered promptly, because it really sucks to work with such a lousy environment. And even worse, less computer savvy students have to deal with it even moreso than me. So potentially I could spread the word on how to unrestrict certain things.
Who the fuck cares? Who the fuck goes to school to complain about the fucking font on a goddamn fucking school computer? FOR FUCKS SAKES IT'S A GODDAMN FUCKING SCHOOL COMPUTER HOW THE FUCK IS IT BOTHERING YOU SO FUCKING MUCH?
He asked how, Not for our usual bullshit.

Wow your cool you took my argument that they set up all of the computers in the school with crippled start menus, locked features that could enable a smoother user experience, and overall severely limited the use of the computers by students, which in turn affects those of us who know how to use them best the most, and turned that argument into acting like I was pissed about font.
I bet you drive a muscle car, have greased back hair, a leather jacket on, and smoke weed all the way to school. Then when you get there you tell teachers you'll murder them and you get away with it.
Not.
Why don't you put windows xp on your usb stick so that way you can boot from that and not have restrictions and run everything you want; plus teachers won't notice (in theory). I put ubuntu on my usb stick and run it at school all the time, my teachers just think i changed the backround or just look at me and say how cool it is that i can do that with a usb.
Alright I'll just do ubuntu.
The thing is, I'd like to learn more about changing system settings instead of everyone's usual ubuntu+USB stick combo, but I'll do it if nobody else has ideas.
just use it jesus its school what would you need it for besides word, firefox and powerpoint.

I had to extract the firefox installer to get it on my school computers.
I've also got an IRC client and a Gameboy emulator installed on the school computers :smug:
Gotta catch em all while in the Media Center.
Firefox portable would've been easier
and I've spent many free lessons playing nethack. Good times
Is the laptop in your actual possession? If so I would just do a fresh install of XP
If not just do a windows XP usb stick like people are saying.
Also it most likely won't get you anywhere but have you taken this up with school administration?
The Classic theme is easier on resources and takes less space on the screen. I use it on all my machines except my main gaming desktop, I have the Windows MCE theme there. I see no usability difference in regular use between the themes, though others might.
Just use what you have available, then hug your own machine when you get home.
I got everyone in my school district's office to use luna.
why can't you?
You could look up how to crack SAM files with Cain if you really want admin privelages just to change the theme

As dumb as it sounds, I don't have a way to get firefox portable to the school computers. I haven't owned a USB drive in nearly four years. And the computers for some reason don't have CD drives unless I use one in the Media Center.

It's not classic he doesn't like, it's the stupid start menu
download it?

you got regular Firefox on there somehow
School's web filter has a list of allowed pages, not a list of disallowed pages. Mozilla's website is on the list of allowed pages.
dang

one trick I learnt many many years ago is using any webmail, email yourself with the file attached from home then retrieve it at school
depends if there's any allowed webmails though
My schools computers don't let us run batches or unathorizes .exe files. Luckily my VB teacher gave us special computers with a fresh install of XP using deepfreeze. I play doom/heretic/duke 3D/Halo all period long.

hell some schools have started giving them away for free
When you are logging on, rip out your ethernet cable, this generally worked as an easy way to get an admin account for a login when I was at school, it will most likely work with your school aswell.

I used to do that, but then they blocked it.
They also disabled batch files after I used one to fuck with the school's system using net send.
