So for about two years I've been dealing with glaucoma. If none of you know what it is here is a wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glaucoma But in short it is when the pressure isn't correct in your eyes but in my case one eye. It damages the optic nerve which slowly takes your sight away. That's it in a nutshell.
During the time I've notice my vision start to deteriorate. Everything seems to become slightly bended and a little duller like my eye isn't correcting to the amount of light in the room. It makes reading text harder since I always lose my place and have to really strain to make out the words if I cover my right eye that is. Since my right eye isn't effected by this problem it can fairly balance things out enough to get me by. Up till now I haven't felt the effects but recently the progress of glaucoma has took a fair impact on my sight. You can start to see physical signs in my eye as the pressure has built at first glance it looks blood shot but when you do look at it you can see mistiness around the iris.
The is known medication that can halt the effects. But it doesn't seem to be safe for me or my family. Since my nan had it and was on the medication not long after she was diagnosed with a rare form of dementia. Doctors said the medication could of been the case since she was only in her early 50's. It really isn't know for people to get dementia at that age. It is also possible it could run in the family. I don't plan on taking the chance since watching my nan lose her independence and becoming bed bound is quite a horrible thing to experience.
So on with the question I haven't spoken to anyone that has had this problem. But facepunch is a big place. So has anyone suffered losing their sight to glaucoma or is. What are the later stages like and how will it effect my life in the long run?
Thanks for any help I do appreciate it.

noticed right after I posted. Really should start getting on with the thread then browsing.
Isn't there a procedure in which part of the eye is punctured and a bit of aqueous humour drained in order to alleviate pressure inside the eye? Temporary a solution I would imagine, but better than nothing surely?
Get medical marijuana.

In theory that could work. Not sure if hospitals do this but it would have to be repeated for the rest of my life. Possibly a risk as well.
Although I am okay with losing the sight in my eye. Not something I want to happen but I'm not willing to have the risk of losing my memory and eventually dying from a horrible slow disease.
I just want to know the outcome and day to day life of having glaucoma.

This.
I'd seriously consider looking into getting approved for medical marijuana, as it helps reduce pressure build up in the eye caused by glaucoma. Personally I had glaucoma in my left eye when I was very young and an accident caused me to lose all vision within the left eye. I don't have a medical marijuana card but I can get a hold of medical grade stuff around where I live and it has helped me reduce the throbbing pain I get from pressure build up in my left eye.
Of course you will want to take the legal route in this situation, but you could always find some stoner kids and buy some off them.
How did you get diagnosed? Would an optician spot glaucoma when they are doing a normal eye exam for long/short sightedness?
seriously weed cures glaucoma and makes you feel nice
take it from me im a 'freelance pharmacist'

Some people tried to mug me and attempted to knock me unconscious. I was hit across the face with a metal pole of some sort which left quite a nasty cut across my eye. After several hospital check ups I was recommended to go to an optician. Both the hospital and optician confirmed glaucoma.

I am also a street pharmacist and I confirm this statement.
p.s. "we" currently have discounts at our "pharmacy".
Seriously though, that's unfortunate. :(

Well the night it happened was terrible of course. I had to spend the night in hospital being stitched up and the following day my eye was the size of a golf ball. But I made a great recovery fairly quickly.
The muggers never got anything because I took off soon as they hit me.
Was left with a broken nose, my head had a deep cut down to the bone and my was badly swollen. But it could of been worse.
psychosocially it hasn't effected me just made me more careful at night about who's about.
