There wasn’t enough details to go forward with a story so it was kept under wraps until more information surfaced on this issue. Today, a completely different source close to the Xbox One project, informed me that Microsoft will have to under clock the Xbox One about 100-200mhz to fix the systems heating issues. What does this mean to developers? Well we already know that the PS4 is more of a powerhouse than the Xbox One. It has faster RAM and bus bandwidth than the Xbox One already. Under clocking the system will widen the gap between the two consoles, but at the same time will keep the failure rate on the Xbox One very low. The last thing we need is another RRoD fiasco. In terms of games, you will see a significant difference in multiplatform titles. Lower clock speed means lower frame rates. This means that a game running 60fps on PS4 may only run at 30fps on Xbox One. Even given the current specs, this would probably still be the case except now we are under clocking the GPU. This could affect other things like the Peak Shader Throughput. If Minecraft were to be released for both Xbox One and PS4, you’d see no difference. A game like Battlefield 4 my run at a lower framerate on the Xbox One than it does on the PS4. We still don’t know how much the eSRAM is going to boost or hinder performance of the Xbox One. We also can’t leave out the fact that every developer, every game and every engine runs differently. They could theoretically boost frame rates on the Xbox One to match PS4 by turning off AA effects and lowering resolution. I’ve received this information from two different sources, but I would still chalk it up as a rumor until we are able to get more information from Microsoft. Things could still change between now and launch. I wouldn’t worry too much about this problem because under clocking the system is the safest route to go when issues like this arise. The biggest test will be when Digital Foundry gets their hands on the first multiplatform next generation title. It's almost as if Microsoft is in a satirical movie or one of those fake but funny ads in Grand Theft Auto where a product is made purposely bad for humors sake.
the article reeks of bullshit.
I was told by an unnamed source
Sounds like the guy fancies the PS4 and simply wants to spread false rumors.
200mhz seems low, will it really affect it that much?
"This means that a game running 60fps on PS4 may only run at 30fps on Xbox One." Bullshit, 100-200mhz won't make that kind of a difference. This is a shitty sensationalist article spewing unconfirmed rumors and biased information. This is bad even for this section.
I was told by an unnamed source
Move along, people. Nothing to see here.
This is a shitty sensationalist article spewing unconfirmed rumors and biased information. This is bad even for this section.
I've been saying this for weeks, people just love to hate.
You'd figure this is something they'd consider beforehand because of the issues with the 360 and put in a beefier heatsink or more/bigger fans in the case. Something isn't quite right about this one
OH MY GOD 200 MEGAHERTZ WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING MICROSOFT YOU DUMB MOTHERFUCKERS JUST COMMIT COLLECTIVE SUICIDE!!!!! Anonymous source as well, well better just trust it explicitly even though they seem to think 200mhz is going to make the FPS half for some reason only known to them.
200mhz seems low, will it really affect it that much?
Absolutely not a 30FPS difference but it's a fairly substantial underclock. [editline]5th June 2013[/editline] but yeah, this is very sensationalist and clearly not true
They're using AMD's APU's so I think they're going to be really pushing for developers to balance the load across all 8 cores. Probably won't matter much.
A couple of GAF insiders (crazy buttocks on a train and Matt) claim that there is something going on with MS's hardware. They didn't say exactly what was wrong, though. Source: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=576869 Apparently their track records are really good, though.

I think the best thing about this picture is the fact it seems to have no case based airflow at all, it is just smashing air ontop the cpu and letting the heat figure it's own way out.
Wow great way to ride the bandwagon against Xbox One. Posting these articles with terrible sources and no basis whatsoever for their credibility should be a bannable offense.
I can imagine the Rockstar team putting in parodic advertisements about an upcoming video game console. With slogans like this: "Are you parents afraid your child might be corrupted by evil videogames? Are you tired of buying useless timewasting console games? Do you want the government to monitor your kids actions to determine if you are upbringing a future terrorist? Then get the FauxBox! It doesn't even have games!"
Rumors from "Unnamed sources" are news now?
Fuck I hope all these rumors aren't true, and I hope they're literally all fake sources and smoke and mirrors, because I want the Xbox to do good for the gaming market, if it doesn't Microsoft may give up...giving Sony a monopoly on "gaming" with Nintendo never able to catch up after this generation's failure.
Microsoft is like walking satire omg
Can we like, I don't know, not post anything that is based on a rumor no matter the subject. If it's confirmed, it's confirmed. If it isn't, it's probably fake.

If it isn't, it's probably fake.
The thing is, MS won't confirm something like this ever. Look at how long they denied the issues that the Xbox was having with the RRoD. I agree with you though, believe this at your own risk. But considering the track records the two posters I mentioned on GAF (apparently) have, there may be some factual proof to this. There was also a few insiders (crazy buttocks on a train posted on this thread as well) posting that the UI shown at the presentation was fake as well. (thread here http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=576505) and considering that 3GB of RAM is reserved for the OS, that's pretty sad. Of course, the console is still in it's early stages, but crazy buttocks on a train's post here claims that the PS4 reveal caught MS by surprise and they've been scrambling to get the system going for 2013 release and that it's too late for them to change anything about the hardware. Sure, they can fix the shitty OS, but if the hardware is having problems, they're in trouble. If they do, they do. Just because some person of NeoGAF posts a video/gif isn't official confirmation and thus not real proof of anything. Until news sources report with hands-on experience with the UI, it should be assumed it will be as smooth as at the conference. Until Microsoft announces/someone finds out the clock speed, it should be assumed to be whatever the original speed of the CPU is. If the UI is choppy and slow as the person on NeoGAF said, then that is a disappointment and fuck microsoft blah blah blah. If the clock speed is slow as the two sources in the article suggest, then it's a disappointment and WiiU but worse fuck microsoft blah blah ps4 blah. Until any of that happens, assume what has been confirmed. If no info is out on it, assume the thing that makes the most sense money wise. Reporting on rumors is a terrible thing to do and is done to generate ad revenue.
Can we have a rule that makes it so no more rumor articles get posted
Can we have a rule that makes it so no more rumor articles get posted
Tbh a portion of the article posted in this section are rumours, most of the just dont have [RUMOUR] labeled on the title like they should.
I don't see the problem with having these articles posted if they have the RUMOR label on them.
Chances are if they do anything about the clock rate, they'll do it dynamically in order to keep the APU inside its TDP.
the article reeks of bullshit. Sounds like the guy fancies the PS4 and simply wants to spread false rumors.
As if he needs to
"This means that a game running 60fps on PS4 may only run at 30fps on Xbox One." Bullshit, 100-200mhz won't make that kind of a difference. This is a shitty sensationalist article spewing unconfirmed rumors and biased information. This is bad even for this section.
Yup, I've seen smaller differences between a 1.86GHz dual core and a 3.4GHz quadcore. No way does 200MHz make that much difference. Even if this rumor was somehow true, wouldn't we all rather have a slightly slower system than put up with a high chance of failure? As bad press as the X1 is getting, it's an understandable "better safe than sorry" move from MS.
They're using AMD's APU's so I think they're going to be really pushing for developers to balance the load across all 8 cores. Probably won't matter much.
You mean four. APUs have four cores with eight integer units so each core can process two threads. It's similar to HT on the Pentium 4 where each thread has about half the power of the complete core when both threads are fully loaded.
Uh not bad really, the original Xbox was a 1.4Ghz-grade Intel Pentium III, which was underclocked inbetween 733-800mhz
Uh, no. The CPU in the Xbox is a custom PIII Coppermine. It's somewhere between a regular PIII (133 MHz bus) and a Celeron (128K L2 cache.) The CPU was speced to be 733 MHz. It's impossible for it to be a 1.4 GHz part because the fastest Coppermine was only 1.13 GHz. The Tualatin was the only core on the PIII series to reach 1.4 GHz.
overclocking my 650m + 135mhz to the core only gives me like from 45 to 48 in bioshock infinite, it can't that much of a drastric decrease as they are saying.
