Hey I'm a high school senior looking to get a laptop for my last year of high school and use in college. Ideally I would like a 15" MacBook Pro with discrete graphics but sadly the one with discrete graphics costs 2 grand which I just can't afford.
So the criteria is basically as follows:
15" Screen (Preferably high def)
4Gigs RAM
250+ Gig Harddrive
Pretty Good processor
Discrete graphics that can play most modern games at high settings
I'm really liking the Studio 15 from Dell with the 1080p 15" monitor. I'm also looking at the Studio XPS 16 mostly because I like how it looks more, but I probably am not gonna spend that much extra just for it to look nicer. Price range is basically $1000-1500 but preferably a bit closer to $1000.
I was looking at the Lenovo Y550 but they no longer offer it with discrete graphics which sucks ass. :(
Don't get a macbook, it's a waste of money.

While maybe at one point they weren't on the same line as other laptops, right now macbooks are great laptops for the price. They're also sturdy, feature-filled, and guaranteed to work.

Mac products are huge ripoffs because Apple appeals to the <70 IQ crowd and has no other competition there.

$1499
For a 2.66GHz c2d, 9400m graphics, and a 640GB hard drive. Perfectly reasonable.
[editline]10:44PM[/editline]
Those parts are worth $500 max.

We're talking about macbooks
Don't expect to use a laptop for games. Just get a netbook if you want to play games just use a desktop laptops that can play games are very expensive and are usually quite large, with sub-par battery life. If you plan on bringing it to class you will want a smaller one.

Those 2 would perform about the same yet the windows laptop is half the price.

overpriced = not worth the money
Also Macbooks are fucking sexy, unlike your Lenovos and MSIs.

Screw the Macbook Air, it's more overpriced than all of the other products, that says something. It's still sexier though.

The newer Macbook Pro laptops are actually pretty good. They are thin, have very good specs for the size, and of course, now they are reasonably priced. If only I had the money and I didn't have this Timeline, I'd pick one up in a heartbeat.
OK JohnEdwards, now a Macbook Pro example please. With specs.

The Lenovo Y line is really damn sexy. :<
And this is coming from someone who would take a MacBook Pro over any super maxed out windows machines. <3

Only reason they sell. Hey look it's shiny, it must be better than that other computer because it costs less.
Got a 13' Macbook pro not long ago. No regrets about it. In fact its the best laptop I ever used. People dont account for all the features that really make it worth its value. IE trackpad, chassis, display, magnetic latchs and ports, 7hr battery, illuminated keyboard, ambient sensor, OS X, need I go on? Honestly everything is a step above in build quality and design against your average laptop.
Once you get one everything else just kinda feels shoddy.

It's funny how all the "good looking" windows laptops poster here are ripoffs of the apple designs.
The macbook's multitouch trackpad is what makes it worth it, it's an EXTREMELY good input device, and you can play crysis on medium (60 fps) on the lowest spec macbook pro.
