The Facts:
Kitara (Finnish for Guitar) is billed as the world's first Digital Guitar.
It is made by a company called Misa Digital.
Designed to be a synth built into a guitar.
It features an 8-inch touchpad instead of strings, 144 buttons across 24 frets, and over 100 preloaded sounds.
Three Modes - Normal, Strings, and Ball, along with a Tap mode for each of those modes.
Can control effects such as distortion and modulation from the Menu, and can 'map' these effects to the touchpad gestures.
Can be plugged into MIDI controllers.
It is open source Linux.
Costs US$ 959.00 for the normal, black polymer body, and US$ 3,249.00 for the solid aluminum version.
Oh, and MINE ARRIVED THIS WEEK.
My Thoughts:
I'll keep this brief since this isn't the part you'll care about. The guitar is pretty awesome. Easy to use, beautiful body, intuitive menus, and wicked sounds. I don't know how to play the guitar, and even I could knock out something basic after a couple days.
I even got a certificate with it saying I was the 278th person to order it out of 1000.

Q&A
Wouldn't you keep missing the string buttons since you can't feel where they are?
I haven't had any problems based on that. They just seem a bit short, but he may patch that later.
I guess playing this thing is harder than playing guitar hero on hard mode?
Yes.
I have one and I love it :v:
Is it a lot easier than string guitars or strings or whatever.
This is amazingly awesome, but i imagine both versions breaking the bank extremely.
That skrillex cover actually rocks man!! I'm really tempted to save up for one...
Usually I hate everything about digital guitars, but that last one doesn't sound to bad.
[editline].[/editline]
that price tag. oh lord.
i don't get all the hate on Youtube
"you just killed the meaning of guitar"
Well if you are playing it somewhat like a guitar, why does it kill guitar? just because it has other instruments in it?
Though i can say, the sound quality of a real guitar is obviously better.
I really want one of these, but I'm also experimenting with using a normal guitar to make synth noises and stuff. If only I had a spare $1000
Wouldn't you keep missing the string buttons since you can't feel where they are?
Why is it called Kitara?
Kitara means guitar in Slovenian, but why in slovenian?(a few other countries also call a guitar kitara but still :v:)
That sliding looks terrible
I guess it's a good idea for learning to play the guitar. Also if they integrated that into Guitar Hero, I'd be all over it. Would I actually play it casually like a real guitar? Probably not. The fact that OP bought it without knowing how to play guitar says everything about the target audience for this thing, in my opinion.

You just answered your own question
Thats not TOO bad on that price tag for the basic ver ....
It looks lame
Would totally buy if i had the money at the moment.
Looks useless, you lose expression & articulation because you just push a button instead of pulling a string (which can be done in 100000 ways), even if this thing is velocity sensitive...
In my opinon it both looks and sounds great.
Congrats, you just bought a $1000 synth.
Surely this would be difficult to play and an effects box would achieve much the same effects? Plus a lot of the "feeling" of playing the guitar would be lost, I doubt it would be able to detect the subtleties of a normal guitar in the hands of an experienced player.
It is basically an expensive synth, and you can probably achieve similar sound on a real guitar through an Axe-FX or something but i still think it's neat
Congrats, you just bought a $1000 synth.
Synthesizers are quite expensive anyway.

The microkorg is like the cheapest you'll find and even that's like 300 anyway. This is a pretty reasonable price.
That being said I saw this ages ago and I've been drooling ever since

It's not meant to be a guitar. It's a synthesiser/midi controller.
While the synthesiser is quite awesome, it's the midi controller part that makes me wet. There aren't many midi controllers like that, and you could do some awesome stuff with it, especially live.

You can't. A synthesiser is just too much more diverse, and it has effects too. And it's a midi controller.
It's not even meant to compete with guitars anyway

The MM6 isn't too expensive either and it's orchestra patches are amazing.
The MM6 isn't too expensive either and it's orchestra patches are amazing.
The MM6 is a ROMpler, not a synthesiser. You can't make your own patches in the MM6. And it's a keyboard, it's just completely different.
I guess playing this thing is harder than playing guitar hero on hard mode?
Oh come on I had this idea 5 years ago.
I'm okay with this. I want one.
Looks neat, but seems like a glorified touchpad keytar. Gimmick.
I'd get one if I had the money and wasn't already looking into taking up bass. They seem cool, if very gimmicky.
The people that designed it wasted their time
This digital guitar is pointless - why not a real guitar?
