Hmm...
what's funny is that it doesn't censor http://kat.ph which is literally the same thing, it's a redirect site
Wow, nice going! Good to know it's not a literal match of the link and you can't make any simple modification to pass it through-- woops. [editline]17th February 2015[/editline] Too literally. Put *anything* as a subdomain (nicegoingsteam.????????.to, by example), and it will work. Surprised steam cares [editline]18th February 2015[/editline] like, this didn't seem high enough on their agenda to make a thing
Surprised steam cares [editline]18th February 2015[/editline] like, this didn't seem high enough on their agenda to make a thing
I'm guessing too much pressure
Well, this is insanely silly.
Too much pressure and it was a simple thing to implement. They probably intentionally only made it the exact URL just to say they complied.
Surprised steam cares [editline]18th February 2015[/editline] like, this didn't seem high enough on their agenda to make a thing
They just have to be compliant with UK law, obviously since its such a lazy effort that's all it is.
They just have to be compliant with UK law, obviously since its such a lazy effort that's all it is.
Does it only censor UK citizens?
Steam also censors and removes any links you send if you fell for the fake .scr file that steals your inventory :v:
Tried with a friend and I am from the UK, can still see it.
They just have to be compliant with UK law, obviously since its such a lazy effort that's all it is.
If they're doing it because of UK law at all, which is Matt Purslow's speculation banned on UK block lists. Certainly seems like that kind of token/minimal effort in order to play along. Censoring chat's certainly not a merry prospects in general tho, pretty worrying to me.
Does it only censor UK citizens?
Yes.
Also censors t.co for some unknown reason.
Streisand effect is a bitch.
How about censoring posts that involve words similar to (but not identical to) steamcommunity? Would cut down on the phishers for sure.
How about censoring posts that involve words similar to (but not identical to) steamcommunity? Would cut down on the phishers for sure.
This is something that is worth doing. It's silly how Valve wasted their time implementing this censoring thing instead of doing anything to prevent phishers. Btw, the censoring is working for me and i'm not from UK.
Put the link through TinyUrl And send it through steam. Problem solved.
Interesting, I noticed this yesterday, two different friends who sent me links from there and then got annoyed when I acted like I had no idea what link they were talking about. However today it seems that it's no longer censored, any variation of the link, however it worked yesterday has already been changed at least for my country. But again, this sounds like a good idea, those annoying bots with their fake .scr links could all get shot down at once by blocking that link or similar links. I'm sure the scammers would think of ways around it, but it seems like a pretty good idea to fight automated steam bots, I had no idea steam had that power to just have a message not even be sent based on it's contents.
I'm from the UK, tried it and it works fine. My friend also from the UK can see it.
How about spending time making a Steam friends app for Windows phones, damn
How about spending time making a Steam friends app for Windows phones, damn
Even if they made a Steam app for Windows Phone, it'd be abandoned. The Steam app on Android hasn't been updated since early 2012.
A friend and I ran into this issue last night when he tried to link me to /tg/station.
It seems the censoring is gone for me now. Just sent kickass.to to my friend through Steam chat and he said he received the message.
