So, as i was in class the other day, listening to my iPod i thought to my self, If i made a playlist that lasted say "1.2 hours", would having cross fade on change it? It'd make sense as to it affecting it, and not affecting it. I know this is pretty much a fail topic, but i can't comprehend the idea or how i would calculate it, it starts to cross-fade when there is 7 seconds left on the song.
well cross fade of 7 seconds is hardly going to do anything, there's only about 15 songs in 1.2 hours, so that's roughly 15x14 = 210 seconds so it's only about 3 minutes.
I'm not sure I understand your question, but if I get your point straight it shouldn't affect the total play time, if that is what you're asking about.

Cross fade just slowly lowers the volume at the end of a song doesn't it?
Or does it play the start and and of adjacent songs tegether?

It starts to lower the volume of the current song, and mixes the songs, so you have a continuous flow of music.
Wait, how did you turn that on?

Under settings, music, and it will say cross fade, i believe it is only on the iPod Nano 5th gen
