About The Show
Entering its intriguing second season, LIE TO ME is the compelling drama series inspired by the scientific discoveries of a real-life psychologist who can read clues embedded in the human face, body and voice to expose the truth and lies in criminal investigations.
DR. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) is the world's leading deception expert. If you lie to Lightman, he'll see it in your face and your posture, or hear it in your voice. If you shrug your shoulder, rotate your hand, or even just slightly raise your lower lip, Lightman will spot the lie. But as he well knows, his scientific ability is both a blessing and a curse in his personal life, where family and friends deceive each other as readily as criminals and strangers do.
"Dr. Cal Lightman" - Tim Roth
Dr. Cal Lightman is the world's leading deception expert, a scientist who studies facial expressions, body language, voice and words to discover if someone is lying and why. Lightman can spot what are known as "microexpressions" - split-second, involuntary facial expressions that reveal what a person is really feeling. Lightman's scientific ability is both a blessing and a curse, as he finds that family and friends will deceive each other as readily as criminals and strangers do.
Lightman heads a team of experts at The Lightman Group, an independent firm that assists federal agencies, local police, corporations and private individuals with their most difficult cases.
"Dr. Gillian Foster" - Kelli Williams
Dr. Gillian Foster, newly divorced, is a gifted psychologist and Lightman's professional partner. To get to the truth she focuses on voice, words, and psychology while Lightman focuses on facial expressions and body language. Lightman needs Foster's insight into human behavior, whether he knows it or not.
"Ria Torres" - Monica Raymund
Ria Torres is one of the rare "naturals" in the field of deception detection, with a raw, untrained ability to read people. Lightman serves as a mentor to Torres while also envying her, as she was born with the same innate skills that took Lightman decades of training to attain.
"Eli Loker" - Brendan Hines
Eli Loker is Lightman's lead researcher. He often does video analysis in the lab, and is an expert in the field of group psychology. He is a grateful protege to Lightman and Foster but also wants to make his mark and voice his feelings about cases.
"Agent Ben Reynolds" - Mekhi Phifer
Reynolds is an FBI agent who serves as the firm's liaison to the FBI, helping to bring in cases from the Bureau, while also providing law enforcement know-how to complement the Lightman Group's scientific abilities. While Lightman takes a more patient approach to a situation, Reynolds is all about results, the sooner the better. Hanging back is not his strong suit.
Just finished watching the premiere of the 2nd season.
Absolutely terrific.
The world is made of condoms.
Good enough lie?
Wait a minute.
I've always found it interesting, the concept is cool.
I always thought it was a hilarious concept
tim roth is straight up.
Oh boy, a cop/government agent show about a guy that's more observant than his peers.
Gotta watch this
I found it slightly amusing when, during the "mine collapse" episode, he determines the main culprit wasn't the miners or the engineers, but the Mayor herself. And everyone believes him instantly.
Tim Roth is awesome.
This show is kickass, just watched it.
They should mash this up with The Invention of Lying movie coming out soon.
They should mash this up with The Invention of Lying movie coming out soon.
But Invention of Lying is a comedy. Tim Roth =/= comedy
I thought this looked like an attempt by fox to replicate House's success, but after seeing tim roth in reservoir dogs I now think I'll give this show a chance, even though the whole concept is ridiculous to me.
It's a great show.
Tim Roth got older from the last time I saw him. Interesting plot. Perhaps I'll watch it some time.

The Mentalist?
which is a great show, by the way
It would be funny to get an autistic kid to watch this, they'd be so lost.
Epic Show!
saw an episode: Hated it.
Main guy seems to cocky like he knows EVERYTHING.
The concept is very good; the execution is slightly above average. Overall it's worth checking out.

He doesn't know everything, that's House.
Lightman can just spot if people are lying or not.
just watched the first episode, that was pretty hardcore
though i could guess the endings about half way through
Did they add the asterisk to the end because the name was already copyrighted or something?

I think the asterisk has to do something kind of like bullet points, sort of like
*65% of adults think it is often/sometimes okay to lie to avoid hurting someone's feelings
Hm. Well it sounds to me like they pulled a

Mr. Orange sure does know a lot about lying, doesn't he?
This show actually got me into studying body language and micro expressions. I have tons of bookx on both subjects. I actually thought about making a thread on it before but don't have the patience.

I miss ER.
Is Tim Roth the restaurant robber in Pulp Fiction?
