So I am making a song that takes the piss out of mainstream artists, but I don't want to slander any artists that have any talent/ people who have a decent taste in music like.
It basically has to be an artist that most people know, and most people think is terrible.
I can probably do about 5 artists, perhaps a few more.
So far I am thinking of doing:
Justin Bieber
Kanye West
Lady Gaga (she can actually sing unlike the others, so I'm not as sure about doing her)
-?-
-?-
:frog:
Personality over Principles.
Are you actually going to sing the song, or are you just writing lyrics.
I'm going to sing it, it's mainly as a joke though :v:
Justin Bieber plays drums and guitar. Kanye West made good albums, omitting 808's And Heartbreaks. Idk maaaan.
Well the Kanye West part would mostly take the piss out of him interrupting Taylor Swift.
808's And Heartbreak
I thought it was pretty good actually, use of autotune was expressed well.
I thought it was pretty good actually, use of autotune was expressed well.
I Know!
Each song had that robotic future vibe!!
Too bad I can't tell the songs apart though :frown:
Ahh man you got me. I just added that part to please the hip-hop-plebs. I don't hate on that album. Hip-hop heads got pissed when that came out. It was clear that it was going to be pop-ish, and there's nothing wrong with that - it's just some experimentation.
EDIT - I'm actually doing this wrong. Since it's meant to be funny, there's no need to intellectualize this. Generalizing and exaggerating are okay here. Add Drake and Ke$ha.
Justin Bieber plays drums and guitar.
Then why doesn't he actually use these skills in his music instead of making stupid pop rubbish?
Then why doesn't he actually use these skills in his music instead of making stupid pop rubbish?
It's not really him who has creative control.
He is potentially really good. Once he finds sense to snap out of his crap attitude, but give it a few years, he is still an immature twit.

Manufactured pop star duh.
Look at who produced his album.

All SHIT.
Woah. Fail bro, lol! Those people are talented and good producers.

Usher made one good album, which he didn't create at all. All the other producers are mediocre.

You really need to listen to good music and see the difference.
I suggest Tool, Porcupine Tree and Akayz can recommend some good soul stuff.

Might as well check out the Recommend an Album thread.
Recording artists never create albums alone. Those are definitely not mediocre. Especially Bryan-Michael Cox. Just because something is commercial or pop, you can't say the people who contributed to it are shit.
Recording artists never create albums alone.
Good recording artists have some creativity.
Good producers have some creativity.
I see mediocre from them.
Even the best recording artists don't make an album alone. There's a team of people who work together to make the album sound good. Producer / Composer / Arranger, Mixing and Mastering Engineer, Musicians, Songwriters, and finally the Recording Artist.
You haven't seen the records these producers have done. Even if they produce very commercial pop, they ARE talented.
There's a team of people who work together to make the album sound good.
Okay, here is my contribution.
Justin Bieber's album is terrible, musically.
I have looked at how much effort they put into it, and the result was terrible. What does that tell me?
You've listened to the Justin Bieber album?
That "Baby" single was minimal, definitely not a masterpiece. And, there might be one musical R&B song on there, but...
These songs are not meant to be complex and innovative. They're meant to be catchy, profitable, and for maximum radio play. Creating something like that requires intelligence and mastering of the craft.
Even if it's cheesy, much respect to the people who created that record. It's just a well-crafted record that I don't prefer to listen to.
Creating something like that requires intelligence
No?
It requires something done with heart.

Who the fuck needs that many producers
Creating something meant to be catchy, profitable, and for maximum radio play requires intelligence
Saying BMC is untalented is like saying Quincy Jones is untalented for producing Disco (which was pop at the time) records with MJ.

Most urban / pop music has tons of producers on one album. Unlike rock, metal, etc.

Quincy Jones was very creative with production.
Give Me The Night has that distinct Quincy sound. And he wrote songs.
Yes, BMC is a songwriter too. Quincy Jones made pop, both musical and minimal.
Some of those producers listed are multi-instrumentalists. Calling them shit is really ignorant.
Why are you so obsessed with BMC? He didn't make Justin Bieber's album, he was probably just an advisor.
Not obsessed.
And no he played a bigger role that, I'm sure. The producers aren't in the same room working together. They've produced separate songs on the album.
