Independence day for Scotland would be in March 2016, with the first elections to an independent parliament in May. The Scottish government wants to ask voters the yes/no question, "Should Scotland be an independent country", in autumn 2014, although it has yet to name the actual date. A 16-page document published by SNP ministers has set out a possible transition from a "yes" vote in the referendum to independence day in March 2016.
I'm not sure being independent is a good thing. Scotland's defence is heavily intertwined with the British Defence Force for starters, it's a lot more hassle than it's worth
Yes, because someone is actively interested in invading Scotland.
Please see: History of England.
Please see: History of England.
Please see: No argument here
We cant go independent. There is no reason to do so. We get most of our money from England, we don't have big enough ports for our imports/exports, no army if we do, loss of massive military gear contracts for ships/planes/munitions, loss of pound, have to join the EU, lose all our oil and there will be all the bloody braveheart fans. Fuck you Alex Salmond!
Just have to wait for Scotland to run out of money and come crawling back again.
Just have to wait for Scotland to run out of money and come crawling back again.
Again?
Just have to wait for Scotland to run out of money and come crawling back again.
Hopefully we don't go independent in the first place.
Please see: History of England.
Protip: Scotland invaded England many times before they got fed up with it and Annexed the damn place :v:
I hope Scotland goes independent. It'd totally ruin the British flag. It'd be hilarious! :v:
I'm not sure being independent is a good thing. SNP's defence is heavily intertwined with the British Defence Force for starters, it's a lot more hassle than it's worth
Fixed. Not all of Scotland wants to be independent, most are strongly against it. There have been 2 referendums before asking whether we should become independent and both were a dramatic no.

I was on the fence for months on this topic, but ultimately I think I'm going to vote yes. It's so fucking hard to get the facts in this debate, some say we cant afford it, others say we can. But personally, I feel like most of that is irrelevant. It all boils down to, I don't like the fact we're not in charge of ourselves, and that we're vastly under-represented in Westminster. All the political bullshit will sort itself out eventually. The way I see it, if all of these countries can gain independance, why can't we? I think the sources that say we can't afford it are scaremongering to be honest. I'm sure I read somewhere Scotland could survive purely on it's whisky exports. Either way, I'm pretty sure scotland makes more money than it spends. I don't have any beef with England at all, actually I'm quite fond of the English. But I always have, and always will, consider myself Scottish. And I'd prefer it if the world recognised that as well. Another thing that peeves me slightly, is that all this talk from England about "unionism" and sticking together is a bit hypocritical... considering there's going to be a vote on whether or not to stay in the EU. I'd rather Scotland gained independence and remained in the EU with or without England.
Teheheh, just look at it. :v:
Fixed. Not all of Scotland wants to be independent, most are strongly against it. There have been 2 referendums before asking whether we should become independent and both were a dramatic no.
False. There's 3 camps. Yes, No, I don't know yet. They're pretty much evenly split. The only reason "they" say most people are against it, is because they lump the latter two together.
Teheheh, just look at it. :v:
Should I feel bad for liking it?
I'm not sure being independent is a good thing. Scotland's defence is dependant on British Forces for starters, it's a lot more hassle than it's worth
Fixed. Sure, there is a lot of Scottish manpower in the British Forces - but all equipment belongs to the Ministry of Defence.
If Alex Salmond actually wants independence he better start publishing some figures to say we can hold our own economically. No one gives a fuck about EU membership, it's guaranteed we'll get in even if we don't get automatic membership. Faslane's nukes will only be an issue for a decade until England can build their own facility to store them. The SNP needs to get into the facts and figures and start convincing people an independent Scotland is viable, rather than just saying "look, EU membership", "look, referendum question", "look, independence timeline". Stop fucking around and give us the god damn figures, unless they already have them and they simply aren't favourable - in which case they are either being economically optimistic or simply don't care if we go to economic ruin unless it's in independence. They must have checked the figures by now - and if they figures were good they would have been parading it around. All we can conclude is the figures are shit and the SNP don't even care.
Why do they keep trying to push Scottish independence if nobody wants it?
Why do they keep trying to push Scottish independence if nobody wants it?
Squeaky wheel gets the grease.
The last I heard they want to fund most of an independent Scotland on north sea oil
Do you think you know better then the actual government of Scotland
Well judging by their retarded thought to go independent yes I do. The fact that they blindly ignore all the issues of Independence is completely stupid. Also to add to my previous comment, No NHS (no money of course)
The last I heard they want to fund most of an independent Scotland on north sea oil
...Scotland doesn't own that oil. It's not ours to take. [editline]5th February 2013[/editline] Also, they tried that before in the 1970's referendum. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It's_Scotland's_oil
I for one think independence would be okay. I don't really care either way. [editline]5th February 2013[/editline] That's what I have to say.
They need to stop pushing an agenda that's only beneficial to them. I know literally no one who wants this shit.
Pretty sure defence is nothing to worry about if Scotland go independent, you guys make it sound like either country is going to do absolutely nothing if the other is invaded (not that anyone would even attempt to invade either in this day and age)
They need to stop pushing an agenda that's only beneficial to them. I know literally no one who wants this shit.
That's why there's a referendum on it

Well to that I say, good luck funding your country without all that money from Parliament we give you.
