I honestly don't think I could ever get used to that, I'd much prefer thumbsticks.
This looks incredibly good, if you didn't see the controller video you'd swear it was being played with a standard mouse and keyboard.
That was a pretty convincing video.
ahhhhhhhhh
my thumbs are already sore
could you imagine having to drag your thumb over and over whereas with a thumbstick you just hold it
man

Not really because its like a Laptop track pad, swipe it fast.
Yep, still interested.
Interesting..
I like this. Looks strange, but strange enough that it might actually work.

Well, the thing with the hardware beta is that nothing's set in stone. Maybe they will just make the pads so sensitive they know exactly where your thumb is resting. Maybe they'll substitute them with acidic toothbrushes.

You can't really make the swipe too fast if precision is just as important as quick turns and movement, so there's limits to how much you can do with sensitivity sliders.
It looks like it will sell really well, it breaks the standards for controllers.
But I am completely uninterested.
Looks pretty awful in my opinion, when you see them playing civilization there you can see them trying to move the mouse around on the screen like a laptop touchpad super awkwardly, I can't imagine playing 70% or more of games like this
Oh god that looked terrible to use.
*no harm intended. I love the steam controller and I love you all.

I fuckin hate laptop touchpads and this looks just as frustrating.
Definitely looks interesting/ambitious, really looking forward to giving it a try. From my first impressions it seems like it might not be as good as a mouse and keyboard, but it will definitely be a step forward for people who prefer mouse and keyboard but want a big tv and console type setup.
Looks great, very accurate.

Honestly this looks a hell of a lot more comfortable than a touchpad.
Looks incredibly responsive, but I'll probably just stick with good ol' Mouse & Keyboard

Are you kidding? Touchpads are usually flat and smooth, this thing has fucking bumps and grooves on something you're going to be rapidly swiping your thumb on for hours :v:
I'll reserve some of my judgement for actually trying it but I'm even more convinced than ever that this looks painful and awful to use
I seriously couldn't understand how he does stuff. Rather than using those touchpads, he almost does nothing. R1/L1 R2/L2 substitutes?
I don't think Valve would try and sell you a product that hurt your thumbs so much.
Use your heads here now guys.

I believe most of the games are in legacy mode or whatever he said, so they arent configured for the controller yet and its just emulating a mouse and keyboard.
Hopefully when they are configured for the controller it'll work really well
Aiming looks way faster then a controller so I can see this being cool for people who want precision and compatibility with PC games but don't want to sit on an office chair close to their screen. Honestly it would be nice to have this and a regular pad just for versatility away from the keyboard.
The controller looks like ass but its a neat concept/

oil that bitch up
However when this becomes available I'll certainly buy one just to try out. It looks promising.
Mouse and keyboard still reigns supreme, this looks terrible.
That's interesting, at 0:34 (same thing at 0:37 but it's not as pronounced) in the demo video it looks like he swipes/flicks his thumb to go a full 180°. If that kind of acceleration is refined in the final product, and the haptic feedback works as well as Valve make it sound, I can really see this thing working very well.
I think everyone is completely missing the point. It's not easy to use a mouse and keyboard while on a sofa. Of course it's not going to be as good at a m+kb, but compared to a 360/ps3 controller, it looks incredible.
