• Texting while driving survery

I am doing a survey for an English essay, and I am asking: Do you text while driving and if so, is it distracting?
Why didn't you make a poll for this thread? I'm fairly sure it's easy enough to set one up.

I do it... but only at stop lights. I dont want to wrap my vehicle around a tree or kill someone
I text while driving only when im stopped at a red light or something, and i use my speech to text feature on my droid just to tell people im driving right now, text you later. I had a friend who texts a lot while driving, fucking terrifying to ride with him.
I don't text while I'm driving, and I won't take any calls either. The most I'll do is use my phone to check the time, since my car's radio clock kind of shit the bed. But I can't stand when people chat on their phones while they're attempting to drive...it doesn't work. Texting and driving just makes things even worse.
I can't drive, but I would probably check my phone regularly if I did, and attempt to text one with one hand if it was urgent v:v:v Habit, when you own and use a phone as much as I do, you don't feel normal if you don't have it with you
Never texting while driving. I can take calls, but only if I have a headset on, and it depends on what speed it is on the road, and how much traffic it is. Found an old bluetooth headset couple of weeks ago. Feels really good having it on and talk while driving and no cables hanging around. Feel like a hardcore businessman with it :v:

I don't even have an unlimited texting plan. Really I feel like some kind of superior person for not getting addicted to texting; All I do is send emails to people's phones.
I've done it a few times, but only just really short texts saying I'm on my way or something, I can kind of touch-type plus with predictive it's not like I'm looking at the screen for ages, but still rather distracting

Just so used to the convenience of it.
Wow, I'd hate not having a phone. Just so used to the convenience of it.
I don't think it'd be easy to go without a Cell phone anymore. I'm so used to having my own phone right near me at all times. Hell, I remember before I got my cell phone I wanted one of our cordless phones in my room (despite never making many calls)
Talking on the phone is stupid enough but texting is really retarded
Uh I don't text while the vehicle is moving (Unless it's like the 1 mph cruise past a friend's house). You're stupid if you text when the car is moving above 5 mph, talk about an easy way to accidentally hit something.
What the fuck. I would rather just use the phone normally while driving. I mean I must really want to drive if I was going to start texting. I'm pretty sure someone posted a video a few months ago of a driver following a guy who was texting while driving, and he crashed obviously.
Thanks for the replies and answers to the poll, I really appreciate the help. Keep it up for another day or 2. I would really like to hit at least 100.
Not only do I not text while driving, I don't even bother to answer my phone. If there's a passenger with me, I tell that person to reach in my pocket and answer it themselves.
The only thing I do on my phone while driving is change music, and that's mostly at red lights anyway.
I don't always get a text when I drive, but when I do I read it. Sometimes I've tried to reply but damn it's hard, so I'm just resorting to not bothering. A text can be replied to later, a call can be over loud speaker, my funeral makes it hard to attend to what the call/sms was about. Don't have any need to compulsively waste all my credit unless I'm planning a LAN though.
I can't even pay attention to my speed when I'm driving. A phone would be suicide.
I'm actually surprised by the answers so far. The majority of drivers I have seen text while driving.
Swype makes it really easy, but I'm looking for a good Android app that I can use to text with my bluetooth headset.
