Although the irony of complaining about it coming about as part of a lobbying effort is kind of funny, considering Google were 13th in the top lobbying spenders last year and 7th this year so far, with the film companies part of the MPAA, individually, don't even come close to that.

Really though Google isn't fighting the MPAA because it's good for the general public, they're fighting them because Google's interests and the MPAA's interests differ. It just so happens that what's good for Google is good for the general public.

It sucks that a company has to do what's good for the general public rather than the government.

Google is saying "You can't make the attorney general do that to us" and the MPAA is saying "Watch us". None of these entities care if it benefits the public or not.
