The lawsuit Google filed on Friday accused Mr. Hood of violating federal law and requested that he be prevented from enforcing his subpoena. It also accused Mr. Hood of essentially acting as a pawn for the M.P.A.A., arguing that Mr. Hood “took these actions following a sustained lobbying effort from the Motion Picture Association of America.” An M.P.A.A. spokeswoman belittled Google’s accusations. “Google’s effort to position itself as a defender of free speech is shameful. Freedom of speech should never be used as a shield for unlawful activities and the Internet is not a license to steal,” said Kate Bedingfield, an M.P.A.A. spokeswoman, in an emailed statement
Bolded for irony. Oh that's lovely. It took out all the formatting on submission. Thanks Gary.
I am good with anyone shitting on the MPAA
Fuck Jim Hood and the movie industry. A THOUSAND YEARS OF GOOGLE!
I love that Google is so tired of the MPAA's shit that they are taking legitimate legal action. Its about time someone put their actions in perspective and Google is one of the entities big enough to successfully pull it off.
Hahaha. Suck it.
mpaa
more like
mpa gay
haha
-snip-
The MPAA would know a lot about free speech- being the biggest censor of it for any submitted films.
The MPAA pretty much are responsible for the death of public domain and the enourmously shitty copyright laws that have been enacted over the decades
All righty then. Let's see just how big Google's fangs are.
Google, for the lvoe of anyone sane, drop a figurative nuke on those dipshits!
Lesson learned: Do not piss off Google.
Although the irony of complaining about it coming about as part of a lobbying effort is kind of funny, considering Google were 13th in the top lobbying spenders last year and 7th this year so far, with the film companies part of the MPAA, individually, don't even come close to that.

That's the broken system; they can't beat the system, so they have to use it.
Really though Google isn't fighting the MPAA because it's good for the general public, they're fighting them because Google's interests and the MPAA's interests differ. It just so happens that what's good for Google is good for the general public.
It sucks that a company has to do what's good for the general public rather than the government.

This is essentially a fight between corporations over which ones control the government. Google is saying "You can't make the attorney general do that to us" and the MPAA is saying "Watch us". None of these entities care if it benefits the public or not.

Remember to wash your documents everyone.
(Or don't, if you're about to do something illegal.)
Google is dumping mags towards the MPAA lately, I'm liking it
I don't see how people dislike google, really

we're getting there boys
but yeah just as mark hosler said, people can fight but only companies are gonna have to do something about dumb censoring/copyright, especially mpaa and riaa and it usually would be for their own benefit to do so. I could probably write a shitload but about this but im just going to leave it as that.
also the mpaa has done so much dumb shit its incredible, seriously. They lobby judges and even police to bust 'piracy' but also use time travel magick
