does not compute.

Also fuck casuals.
I don't hate casual gamers, I usually tend to help newbs in team based games. I hate all these companies that were making such great, rich in complexity and depth, games that one day suddenly they all withdrew from the hardcore gamer in pursuit of more money from casuals. You can see this with the TES series, Battlefield, Call of Duty, and Command and Conquer, etc. This all happened as gaming became mainstream (which was bound to happen eventually) and now you are left with an ironic scenario where none of the big developers are creating games for hardcore gamers, who were the ones who got them off the ground in the first place. It feels like such a backstab, and now its going full circle with indie developers taking the reins for making all the hardcore games. These days I don't even pay attention to any of the big releases anymore.
It was really bad for a couple years because there really wasn't niche games it was all just the same shit, now there are literally hundreds of indie games which fill that gap so there is always a game I can find that I'll like. Even better with kickstarter, gamers literally decide which games deserve to be made. I used to have a really dark view on the industry as a whole for awhile, but now it looks like everything is going full circle and I can see another golden age of games on the horizon.
As for all the big developers I honestly can't see them making the same shitty games forever, something has to change eventually. Call of Duty is at the 9th game in series by now, some day people will just get tired. People are already getting tired of Halo and that's only had like 4 or 5 games. The way I see it Halo has been mainstream for 6 years and the whole Modern Warfare bubble has only been for 3 or 4 years so I think its safe to say that its not going to go away in the near future. At least now there are more options.
