I'd be more interested in this if the ads were completely removed the page layout rather than just being covered over.
Interesting idea, curious to see if it'll catch on

Also this

It's odd they don't do this, I mean adblock does it fairly well.
lol paid adblock without actually removing the ad frame.
Not sold.
A portion of the money goes to Google and a portion to the website.
Users log into the service via their Google account - which will trigger the ad-free version of sites.
These sentences made me realize how much power Google has over the internet in order to be able do something like this
oh no $1-3/month so expensive google why wouldn't we just use adblock instead why would we want to support the websites we frequent? god.
Google is a big advertiser but not the only one.
Pay $3 to visit those pages without ads, another $2 there etc.
In the end you pay a lot for all the pages who use different advertisement.
It won't work in my opinion.
Will it work on YouTube?
Subscription based websites are the future
Adblock Plus with allow non-intrusive advertising turned off.
I haven't seen an ad in ages.

You know what I've seen though? "You're using adblock, please turn it off waah" far too many times.

i usually just adblock those too
I would be ok with this if it was a global solution, i don't care about paying google to remove non intrusive ads on a handful of websites.

I turn off adblock for sites I care about supporting, so honestly, your argument doesn't really matter.

Believe it or not ads are the source of income for a lot of people. Block them and they don't even get the little they get from CPI(which adds up)
I'd be totally okay with paying a small fee to certain websites I liked if they gave me the option to do so.
The thing is, we don't OWE anyone money. This seems to assume that if we're not going to want adverts, we are in debt to the website for not viewing them. I don't like that.

Hi, read what I just said.
If I frequent or use a site and its ads aren't intrusive as fuck, enjoy the revenue.
You act like there's not "disable adblock on this site" option
[editline]a[/editline]
You know what, if ads weren't 99% of the time malicious and/or useless and/or intrusive, I wouldn't even use it.
I turn off adblock for sites I care about supporting, so honestly, your argument doesn't really matter.
iirc they dont get any revenue unless you click on the ads?
iirc they dont get any revenue unless you click on the ads?
CPI = cost per impression
basically the advertiser will pay a lot less, hoping that their product will stick in your mind
for example, the old evony ads with the boob chick. bet you still remember those
Adblock mate

once i went on a website with shitloads of ads absolutely fucking everywhere
each panel was that single ad.
How about I donate to the maker of the webpage personally and adblock cleanly, without giving a share to Google?
[editline]22nd November 2014[/editline]
Setting up a donate button is probably easier than setting up advertising with Google, and you can still have both.
Set up advertising on side, set up a rudimentary login system, remove ads from side of the site when somebody who donated to you logs in.
I don't know why I should pay google for doing worse job than adblock does.
You know what I've seen though? "You're using adblock, please turn it off waah" far too many times.
Well they're well within their right to ask you to turn off and adblock considering you're enjoying their content and using their bandwidth for free
I use adblock mostly for the ads that are malicious, destroy browser performance or play obnoxious sound automatically.
If ads become reasonable, maybe I'll disable adblock here and there (but they're usually not).

So you mean it was like the Internet back in the late 90s?

Ads do more than that, they're known to considerably increase the battery usage on mobile devices because of the CPU intensive crap. They also waste disk space and eat tons of bandwidth. I remember a guy doing a test with blocking ads vs not blocking and over the course of some period of time (think a week or month), his computer used 60% less bandwidth.
If you have an internet plan with a hard bandwidth cap, a considerable portion of it is being eaten away by shitty ads if you aren't blocking them.
Ads are still pretty terrible, GiGaBiTe. There's stuff that'll cover the entire page, or pop-out inside of the website you're viewing, and play video... etc.

Are you a bot or something? Did you completely misread my post? I don't get it.
Why are you acting like I defended ads when I pointed out they're terrible.
