• Upgrading from a 8800GT...

I've had an eVGA 8800GT SC ever since it came out and I'm thinking it's time to upgrade my GPU. However, before I spend the money, I'd like some opinions on if my current PC could handle a new GPU (no bottlenecking, etc.). My current system is as follows: Motherboard: Gigabyte P35-DS3L Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo e6750 OC'd to ~3.2Ghz (I can probably push it a little higher since I've got non-stock air cooling) Memory: 3GB Video Card: eVGA 8800GT Power Supply: OCZ 600W (Forgot the model) Monitor Resolution: 1440 x 900 I'm definitely looking for a 2xx nVidia card, so I've thought of the GTX 260 Core 216 SC 55nm. My main question is, would this card work well with my system without bottlenecking (I'm sure my PSU can handle the increase in power consumption)? If so, could my PC possibly handle a GTX275?
Look at the ATi 5850 / 5770.
for 1440x900 you don't need to upgrade yet. Hell I'm still doing fine at 1600x900 on an 8800GT
What about a Radeon X1800 on 1440x900?
What about a Radeon X1800 on 1440x900?
Isn't that one old and (by today's standards) crap as shit?
for 1440x900 you don't need to upgrade yet. Hell I'm still doing fine at 1600x900 on an 8800GT
It really depends on what you're playing. OP, give us a list of games you're playing and planning to play.

My 8800GT from early 2008 is still doing just fine :) can play all source games on highest setting. No need to upgrade for me yet and maybe you should wait too.

5850 or 5770
Not a fanboy, just never had an ATi card before.
Why does that matter? I've never had a ferrari before, but hell, do I want one!
I've heard it's a giant pain in changing graphics card brands. Course I've had the same card for the past three years so I wouldn't know myself.

Sounds about right.
No point in getting a new card, save your cash. If you can't play every new game on high or at least medium-high at that resolution, something other than the card is to blame. I have an 8800GT, Phenom II x4 955 (3.2ghz) and 2gb of RAM on vista 64. I've yet to see a game which won't run on a highest settings at 1280x1024 at over 30fps avg with the exception of Crysis which runs at about 35fps avg on high fine.
1280x1024 isn't a hard res to max at all, it's pretty low [editline]05:14PM[/editline] also I ran Crysis somewhere around that FPS that @ 1600x900, mostly highs
1280x1024 isn't a hard res to max at all, it's pretty low
Thanks for that captain e-penis obvious, it's a larger resolution than 1440x900 which is the relevant information I was portraying.
I love my 8800GT soooo much.
Good old 8800GT from 07 still eating my games. :)
