Animaniacs was a cartoon show which ran from 1993 through 1998. It was created by Warner Bros. Animation and Stephen Spielberg, when the was a fucking certified genius. It stared the Warner siblings, Yakko, Wacko and Dot, and other characters either made for the show or brought in from other WB productions (Tiny Toons, etc.). The comedy of Animaniacs was a broad mix of old-fashioned wit, slapstick, pop culture references, and cartoon violence and wackiness. The show featured a number of comedic educational segments that covered subjects such as history, mathematics, geography, astronomy, science, and social studies, often in musical form. Animaniacs itself was a variety show, with short skits featuring a large cast of characters. While the show had no set format, the majority of episodes were composed of three short mini-episodes, each starring a different set of characters, and bridging segments. I don't think I use the phrase "fucking incredible" often enough in a serious tone, but I will here. Animaniacs is one of the best cartoon series that was ever aired on TV. It attracted a wide audience from kids to adults. It had slapstick abound, culture references galore which I never got as a kid and the humor and self-awareness of the show has yet to be matched. It was also really, really subtle. It had a lot of adult humor mixed in and basically proved that you can put anything in a kids cartoon if you're clever enough. I mean, look at this brilliant shit: You wouldn't get that today. Censors have caught on. I mentioned there are a lot of cultural parodied. Well, there are a lot of cultural parodies. If Fox owned it, it was probably made fun of. Hollywood stars of all kinds made appearances on Animaniacs, as did parodies of entire TV shows in some episodes. A lot of it I didn't get as a kid, and maybe you didn't either, but looking back on some of the stuff that has been kept around via YouTube, it's still hilarious and more so now that we've grow up (maybe). This isn't nostalgia talking, it's a fact. R.I.P., and don't forget... "Goodnight everybody!"
I LOVED this show
A thread like this is overdue, big times. Awesome show, loved all the songs - of course, I only heard them now as an adult, since they didn't have the show here when I was a kid.
I never realized how Wacko was such a lady chaser. When I was a kid I caught on a little, but assumed the "Hello nurse" thing was because they found the girls attractive.
One of my favourite shows as a kid, and still is.
I remember reading that Wacko's voice was based off Ringo's voice from the Beatles cartoon- in fact, they might even be voiced by the same guy.
Hellooooooooo nurse.
