(UPI) -- British authorities have yet to solve the mystery surrounding the death of a 37-year-old man who collapsed after opening a box that had “Pandora’s box” written on it in red letters. The parents of Jason Airey found him unconscious in one of the bedrooms at their Carlisle home back in May of this year. He never regained consciousness and died two days later in the Cumberland Infirmary. Although the box found beside him contained synthetic cannabis, it was unused and no drugs were found in his system. A coroner’s report concluded that Airey’s heart had stopped beating which caused his organs to fail. “His heart stopping caused the death of his brain which caused multiple organ failure,” said coroner Robert Chapman. “We don’t really know what caused his heart to stop. There is a possibility that he had a fatal cardiac arrhythmia -- a change in his heartbeat.” His father, Dennis Airey, said that his son seemed happy prior to his death. “He was just his normal self,” he said. “I think he had enjoyed himself in town. He had been shopping and said he was going upstairs to get changed.” Dennis said that his wife, Anne, got concerned when Jason was upstairs for an extended period of time. “She went upstairs and came back down saying something was wrong. She couldn’t wake him,” Dennis said. “I got hold of him and his shirt was clammy. His face was blue. I could feel a faint pulse on his neck.”
Read more: http://www.upi.com/Odd_News/Blog/2013/11/11/Authorities-investigate-death-of-British-man-who-collapsed-after-opening-Pandoras-box/1001384203695/#ixzz2kS6RFSIB So, fellow facepunch investigators, what do you think is the cause of death?
My vote is on sudden cardiac death due to embolization in heart or lungs, though you can only tell for sure if you autopsy this chap. Only other likely causes would be an aneurysm going bust in the brain or thorax. edit: commotio cordis is out since he wasn't hit by anything on his chest wall.

AMI? or a second on sudden cardiac death...
If i was to hazard a guess, id say it was the evils of this world that killed him.
Lesion of the Medulla. Calling it now.
Long QT syndrome?
It's lupus.
Long QT syndrome?
Possibly... many arrythmias go completely unnoticed until two ectopic beats make the whole thing go wonky.
If someone had taken the time to write 'pandora's box' on it I'm guessing it would have to be some sort of toxin, like cyanide, launched via some kind of spring system attached to the lid of the box at whoever opens it. Although it's more likely it was some kind of prank thing that launched talcum powder or something that he was allergic to.
Lesion of the Medulla. Calling it now.
not likely unless he had a condition that caused raised ICT in the first place. It's possible in rare cases that younger patients might suffer a hemorrhagic or ischemic infarct to the brain, but this would be the rarest type of infarct to occur as far as regional distribution goes.
Yeah, i bet it was some sort of gas or something.
Either way, now that he's opened it, its only a matter of time we die one by one.
it's not lupus!
suddenly lupus.
But one thing was left behind when the evils left the box. Hope.
But one thing was left behind when the evils left the box. Hope.
he's dead dude
But one thing was left behind when the evils left the box. Hope.
Wasn't marijuana the only thing found in the box marijuana = hope confirmed

Start interviewing everyone he talked to in the last five years, we've got a homicide to investigate.
its possible he had a severe allergic reaction to whatever was in the box synthetic cannabis does contain a plethora of chemicals and crap, after all
The medical staff of Facepunch will succeed in cracking this mystery.

Pandoras Box, eh? I'd say it was a heart attack.
weed claims another victim............ ... is there such a thing as an allergy to the stuff? What if that mad stonk triggered something
Dysentery.
Only one way for sure how to find out if this box is evil or not, make someone else open it and see what happens.
daijitsu: From what I remember of my classes on allergic reactions and some forensics modules, yes, cannabis can cause allergic reactions, but there would have been some signs of the reaction for all to see on the fellow's body.
But one thing was left behind when the evils left the box. Hope.

he's dead dude
lots of hope and one dead body
At least his face didn't melt. No wait fuck that's the ark.
This is why weed should be illegal, when you put it into a box and then open it it KILLS YOU!
