Boygeniusreport is reporting the first leaked screenshot of the iPhone 4.0 OS (2B13), leaked from an inside Apple contact. According to the Apple contact, there are some new exciting features added to the iPhone OS 4.0. Here are five features added to the iPhone OS 4.0 that should make iPhone fans excited: • There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide. (Would make sense for that as the rumored OS for the iTablet is close if not the same as the iPhone) • “A few new ways” to run applications in the background — multitasking. • Many graphical and UI changes to make navigating through the OS easier and more efficient. We haven’t had this broken down, but we can only hope for improved notifications, a refreshed homescreen, etc. • The update will supposedly be available for only the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but will “put them ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers” more than any other phone to date. Everyone is “really excited.” • The last piece of information is the most vague, but apparently there will be some brand new syncing ability for the contacts and calendar applications. If the list is true, it could mean that we might see the next generation iPhone next week during Apple’s press event on January 27. Fans will also be happy to see that Apple is finally adding in multitasking, a very long overdue feature, which is something to get excited about, much like copy and paste was in iPhone OS 3.0. It also appears Apple is cutting out support for the iPhone 2G; no mention if Apple will be cutting software support for the first generation iPod touch. The iPhone 2G, 3G, iPod touch first and second generation all use the same processor, ARM11 at 620mhz, underclocked to 412Mhz with 128MB of ram. Add a bloody custom EQ already, you assholes.
I have an iPod Touch first-gen 8GB. If they cut support for my iPod, I'll sue the fuck out of them. Apple better be prepared for a monumental shitstorm if they think they can play hardball.
Add a bloody custom EQ already, you assholes.
+1. Even my Nokia E63 has that. And their built-in music playing application is pretty bland to say the least.
The iPod touch 1G is old and slow. And you can't sue them because they didn't really do anything illegal. It's like suing Crytek because Crysis won't run on your Radeon 9200.
It's nice to see more power being phased in, but at the same time alienating half the market is a big problem..
I bet there won't be a new iPhone.
Less than half. Most people own 2G iPod touches and iPhone 3Gs. Probably only like 10% still use iPhone 2Gs or 1G iPod touches.
Then where can i get an app to overclock (de-underclock) my ARM processor, because even basic GBA and NES emulators are too laggy to play on my 1st-gen touch.
No such app. And it probably wouldn't be very safe.
Fucking shit, I have a first gen iPod as well... [editline]12:38AM[/editline]
No such app. And it probably wouldn't be very safe.
Kinda related, wasn't the psp able to be overclocked to 333mhz if you had a custom firmware?
Yeah, and it raped the battery life up the ass. But that was a fat device with no known heat issues. Apple pushed their luck enough with the 3GS. Mine heats up like a motherfucker when I use tethering.
Fuck...I just remembered that my dad has a 32gb 3g iPod :gonk: still, I want my iPod to have 4.0 :colbert:
The JB community will probably make it compatible via hacks, anyway.
Then where can i get an app to overclock (de-underclock) my ARM processor, because even basic GBA and NES emulators are too laggy to play on my 1st-gen touch.
It's because of the sucky hardware in the 1g. You have nothing to complain about.
Still no flash support in safari. :saddowns:
If they don't support the iPod Touch (3G) anymore i am going to rage. It's probably fake anyway. [editline]01:30PM[/editline] OMG I GOT IPHONE OS 5! :v:
Fuck, if they drop support for my 2G I won't be happy, they really need to thin the OS down a bit as it uses up over half the available RAM at the best of times. I also want native multi-tasking :saddowns:
Free RAM is wasted RAM
It's there for when it is needed.
Free RAM is wasted RAM
Not with iDevices. It slows down with how low of memory is free, so...

They are not required to provide you with more OS upgrades, nor were they required to give you any in the first place. You have absolutely no legal ground to stand on.
If they don't support the iPod Touch (3G) anymore i am going to rage.
The 3G was released about 4 months ago. They're not gonna drop support for it that fast.
Well my ipod's battery is crapping out anyways, maybe i'll just sell it on craig's list and buy a new ipod touch when it can shoot videos. (which the first, second, and third-gen touches should have had anyways)

It won't have a camera. Sorry.
I also want the next iTouch to have bluetooth, so i can use my wireless headphones without the stupid adapter that plugs into the data port.
iPods have had Bluetooth since the 2G.
Free RAM is wasted RAM
Did I really just read that? Not like it matters anyway, the iPhone OS is pretty inefficient toward RAM usage. No wonder they haven't introduced real multitasking yet.
Did I really just read that? Not like it matters anyway, the iPhone OS is pretty inefficient toward RAM usage. No wonder they haven't introduced real multitasking yet.
Yes, have a look at some recent operating systems such as Vista or Windows 7. They dynamically allocate extra free memory to system processes, then free it if applications need it. Taking advantage of the majority of resources on offer isn't a bad thing, especially in the mobile market, where there is limited to begin with. Apple have already increased the performance of the OS over the releases and at the end of the day, there is a limit to what can be done with 128mb of RAM. Increasing the RAM in the phone is a much better option (as they did with the 3GS), than spending hundreds/thousands of programming hours optimizing system processes to free a megabyte or two of memory. Oh and battery life is the main reason they've not introduced multitasking yet.
