It is also reported that the touchpad will also be able to be mapped like the touchpad on your everyday laptop. If this all comes to be true, the PlayStation 4 may just become the next generation controller you have to have for PC gaming. According to the Redditor, “Galak-Z currently is not stable on the PS4. Thus they had PCs with DS4s [Dualshock 4's] on the show floor running the game. I asked if this implied the PS4 controller works on PC, which he said ‘yes it works as a regular USB controller’.” Also implying that the PlayStation 4′s Dualshock 4 will work as a simple plug-and-play controller, possibly even with bluetooth (if we’re lucky.) As it stands, most gamers prefer the Xbox 360 controller for the most comfortable computer gaming – we’ll have to see how that opinion fares come November 22nd when both competitors consoles go head to head. We’ve reached out to Galak-Z and Sony to confirm this and will update should we hear back.
The reddit link
Not sure if news, but was confirmed to me by a Galak-Z dev on the show floor at PAX. The PS4 controller will work on PC natively via USB. It was not confirmed if it works via bluetooth, and the laptop it was running on had Windows 7. It was also not confirmed that the touchpad worked natively. If the the touchpad could mapped to mouse movement on PC, this would be the ultimate gaming PC controller. EDIT: Some clarification on how this was asked; Per this same dev, Galak-Z currently is not stable on the PS4. Thus they had PCs with DS4s on the show floor running the game. I asked if this implied the PS4 controller works on PC, which he said 'yes it works as a regular USB controller'. EDIT2: As other people have said, Transistor as well was running on PC using wired PS4 controllers.
Edited: alien_guy found a post on the reddit thread where someone plugged in their DS4 to a PC to see if it works
Good, getting my ps3 controller to work on my pc was kind of a pain in the asshole
FUCK YES! I fucking love this idea. Now I just need to get me a gaming PC and I'll be good to go!
Oh damn, that's awesome. That's a nice looking controller, too.
boy oh boy I can't wait to buy another £30 adapter for the xbox one controller!
Now just make it work via Bluetooth sony so I don't have to use motionjoy and choose between a wireless mouse and a wireless gamepad
That's quite a smart business move imo, 2 markets for the price of 1. Even if people don't get a PS4, they might just buy the controller for suitable PC games.
Good, getting my ps3 controller to work on my pc was kind of a pain in the asshole
It's gotten better recently. MotionJoy is now a mostly one-click tool (every time you plug the controller in you have to tell it what to emulate still I find). But native support is a lot, lot nicer.
Oh lordy yes. I've always preferred the PS controllers to the Xbox ones.
i wish microsoft didnt force developers to only natively support xbox controllers, ive always preferred dual shocks to xbox controllers.
That controller looks really nice to hold actually.
Also, no more having to put down the controller and change stuff using your mouse, since the touchpad works like a laptops.
Now ill have an excuse to buy 5 controllers.
iirc the ps3 sdk had drivers for the controller for devs to use it on pc, but they were never made public.
Good, getting my ps3 controller to work on my pc was kind of a pain in the asshole
I've never really had any problems with it using DS3 tool.
that said I'll probably end up buying an xbone controller over this since I'm just so used to being able to use a 360 controller and having it switch over all the prompts and control bindings automatically
YOU MEAN NO MORE OF THIS HORSE SHIT!? HALLE-FUCKING-LUJAH!!!
Will it have native Xinput support? Because if it doesn't it will be virtually useless anyway because no modern PC game with controller support uses anything other than Xinput.
that said I'll probably end up buying an xbone controller over this since I'm just so used to being able to use a 360 controller and having it switch over all the prompts and control bindings automatically
Well, now that the DS4 works natively with USB that might just mean that developers can include a similar experience that you would get with the 360 controller with the PS4. That would be nice.
YOU MEAN NO MORE OF THIS HORSE SHIT!? HALLE-FUCKING-LUJAH!!!
Here, use this instead. http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-XInput-Wrapper-for-DS3-and-Play-com-USB-Dual-DS2-Controller It's much better in that it just makes Windows see the PS3 controller as an Xbox 360 controller. Once you install it, it's plug and play and you don't need to launch the app and enable it every time you want to use it. You install it once and forget about it, and it will just work.
boy oh boy I can't wait to buy another £30 adapter for the xbox one controller!
iirc the Xbox controller will also work on PC with a USB cable.
Will it have native Xinput support? Because if it doesn't it will be virtually useless anyway because no modern PC game with controller support uses anything other than Xinput.
you think microsoft's gonna play nice? xinput was reserved just for the 360 controller.
you think microsoft's gonna play nice? xinput was reserved just for the 360 controller.
Logitech can do it right out of the box with their controllers, what's stopping Sony?
Some guy on reddit tried plugging in his DS4(no idea how he got it though)
How can you prefer an Xbox gamepad though? The Dualshock is infinitely more useful for fightings, which is what you'd mainly use a gamepad for anyway on a PC.
iirc the Xbox controller will also work on PC with a USB cable.
I don't think that controller comes wired, and it still uses batteries too so I don't think it will come with any sort of WEIRD XBOX CONTROLLER PORT OUT to USB IN cable right out of the box.
I might buy a DS4 and no PS4 :D
i wish microsoft didnt force developers to only natively support xbox controllers, ive always preferred dual shocks to xbox controllers.
They didn't. It was just much easier, beginning from the fact that the driver support for the controller was just that much better.
