• What am I doing wrong? I can't seem to lose weight

Around half a year ago, I had absolutely no problem losing weight, I went from 12st to 11st in a month and a half, and back then I was happy with that, so I left it there for the time being. Now more recently, over the past month, I've wanted to continue with the weight loss mostly because I want my abs to show, but I'm also going to start building muscle as of tomorrow. To give you an idea, I'm an 18 year old male, and around 5ft 10 in height. Before I started this one month ago I was 11 stone, I didn't exercise, I didn't care too much about what I eat, for example, I'd have takeaways 1-3 times a week, and at home, I'd still not worry too much about my eating habits. Since then I have been doing a lot of jogging/running (5/6 times a week), but more recently I've been doing HIIT as its more beneficial. I've also cleaned up my diet a lot, that means no junk food whatsoever, and I've been eating less in general too, and trying to eat smaller meals more frequently in the day. Despite this, I have lost absolutely no weight at all, and I am wondering why because I have become a lot more active, and my diet is far better. I can understand if it could be partly due to losing fat and gaining muscle, but since I mostly do cardio, all of that would be leg muscle, and for all the work I've done, I can't see it being the reason why my weight loss has come to a halt. I understand that when you get down to a certain amount of body fat (around 10% I read) then it becomes very hard to lose. And although I know it is probably inaccurate, I used my bathroom scales feature where you input information about yourself, and that told me I had 12% body fat, I know its not a reliable source, but could that be why I'm struggling? Any input is appreciated, and as of tomorrow I'm going to add more weight training into the equation before I do my cardio, and possibly try to make my diet contain less carbs and fat than I am taking in now, if that would be of any help to me that is.
how many calories are you eating per day
I don't tend to count them, but if I base it on what I eat the last time I was watching what I eat. I'd say around 1400-1800 per day. Do you think it would be beneficial to start counting how many calories I take in?
definitely, you are almost certainly underestimating either use a pencil and paper to track calories or you can use an app like myfitnesspal to track calories for you. do this for about a week to understand about how much you really are eating a day then use a calculator like this to find out how much you should be eating (again myfitnesspal has one built in) http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm
I used to use myfitnesspal before, and it told me I should have around 1600 a day. [editline]22nd September 2013[/editline] But from that calculator it has told me the following: Maintenance: 2500 Fat loss: 2000 Extreme fat loss: 1500 From that, assuming that right now I'm between the 1500-2000 calories a day mark (certain I am), then why aren't I losing any weight? I can't quite work it out.

Will do, thank you for the advice. I'll start using that app again tomorrow and update you with my progress after a while.
depends on how long you've been dieting for, bro i mean at most you'd lose like 1 lbs/ 0.45 kgs a week, and that's if you're starting out as a fat fuck. 5'10 and 11 stone/154 lbs is perfectly fine, i dont see why you need to lose weight, unless you're trying to cut and be super shredded?
I can't see anyone at 5'10 and 154 lbs having any amount of significant muscle mass to be super shredded though, I'd probably recommend a bulk more than anything else.
Yeah, cut and shred is what I'm after. But from what I've read, you need to get your body fat percentage pretty low. So would a good diet, with HIIT and weight training do the job for me? Also, what would be the best way to get my body fat percentage lower then? Because my overall weight is at a standstill right now.
Calculate your macros and start lifting weights, do lots of cardio to get a deeper caloric defecit. http://macronutrientcalculator.com/
why cut and shred when you dont have much muscle mass? theres no point at all to do that
Calculate your macros and start lifting weights, do lots of cardio to get a deeper caloric defecit. http://macronutrientcalculator.com/
Thanks, I currently have something like this planned out, but thank you anyway. [editline]26th September 2013[/editline]
why cut and shred when you dont have much muscle mass? theres no point at all to do that
Well to me, bulking is putting on weight as well as muscle, that is what I've seen anyway. And I'd rather put on muscle while maintaining a slim figure, if that makes sense.
Sad truth but you can't gain muscles while losing weight, a cut is to cut fat, a bulk is to make muscles.
impossible, you either lose mass or gain it, there's no in-between unless you get on roids you won't get fat over night while bulking, you will stay relatively lean since i'm assuming you're already at a low bodyfat % so no, do not cut.
Well how would I go about getting some muscle, as well as staying at a low enough body fat percentage to get abs as well? I appreciate the help too, thanks.
Just do an extremely clean bulk, eat only barely above caloric maintenance, like 100-200 calories, you will very slowly gain weight and the muscle gains won't be really fast but it's a a way to keep a low body fat. I still recommend a straight bulk, abs are overrated, you'll have some guy bulking normally for maybe 6 months then another 6 months of cutting and he'll be fucking jacked, then you'll have someone like you doing a very clean bulk and while you'll keep your abs year-long, you'll have much less muscle mass than the guy who said "Fuck abs" for 6 months. It's all about sacrifices, are abs really worth taking fucklong to take on any significant amount of muscle mass? Entirely your call, there's no wrong answers, it's all about what YOU want.
^listen to this asshole he was fat as shit now he's a skinny bitch a damn good job

If you're 177cm and 70 kg's and you still look fat, there'd be nothing left if you cut to low BF%.
I think you need to run 4 or 5 miles per day and eat less calories than you are consuming, I am sure you will lose your weight by doing this.
