Sounds like it's on par with Shivering Isles in scope.
I've heard great things and awful things.
That being said, consider me pumped.
Some of the armor looks really fucking cool.
The carved Nordic armor gave me a boner when I saw it.
Not to mention the return of Chitin and Bonemold
I just started replaying Skyrim too. This looks sweet.
The DLC from what I've heard is nice and all but you shouldn't expect anything like SI, Bloodmoon or Tribunal.
It's basically dawnguard except with a landmass. Expect the same exactly quality and etc of Dawnguard/Skyrim with writing, quests, etc, but now with more things and new areas.
People keep looking at this DLC expecting it to really be what SI was to Oblivion - much more than just more content, SI was a full on expansion that added more to the game beyond more things to do or wear. The quests were a big improvement, the enviornment was a big improvement, some new mechanics and such, etc. Not the case with any of the skyrim DLC, they all look flashy and add some nice content, but it's simply that - just content. As long as you expect more of the same but with just more of it in new situations/locations, then you'll get your money's worth out of it.
But a lot of the flashy features they advertise for the DLC is nothing but gimmicks (dragon riding is literally just an on-rails thing, changing into a vampire lord doesn't signifigantly add anything to the game other than being for the lulz like every new feature they've put into the DLCs, etc).
So it expands upon the boring lore of Skyrim? Why not have it take place in a more interesting area like a daedric gods plane. It worked great with the shivering isles. Seriously there is soooooo much untapped potential.
I have so far 20 hours worth of game play. I just now finished the main storyline. I think it's a good expansion with new enemies, weapons, armor that's really cool, Shouts, abilities, and locations. Riding dragons is also kinda hard, I kept crashing him into the ground. You can also fast travel with a dragon
I think what's really cool about these DLC's is that their all in the main theme of the game. Such as blotting out the sun and the war of the Thu'ums. After those came something about the Dwemer.

I've avoided looking for too much information about it to avoid spoilers since I'm on the PC and we have to wait.

You can fly them wherever you encounter them, Solstheim and Skyrim itself.
