Hi all.
Recently I replaced my MB (now Asus P5N-D) and GPU (GTS 250 TwinFrozr), PSU (DynamicPower 600W brand new) and I think it's been bottlenecking my CPU (Pentium D Duo-Core 3.0ghz).
I am running OS Windows Vista (gonna have to change that in a couple weeks.. hehehe..) and have 2MB RAM from a vendor on my MB's QVL.
I have a very high quality CPU Heatsink, and very good air circulation in my computer (several fans, open case, not near walls, under window..) but my CPU always seems to get to an unstable temperature (90C+) under load. I have properly applied quality thermal paste.
I cannot play games well if they are 'good' games (GTA IV, Mafia 2 - i.e. lowest settings with terrible framerate) and when playing simpler games, i.e. Source, it will start smooth and soon get choppy and choppier and until recently would crash, but for some reason (New PSU i think) it stays on. Symptoms include bad framerate and crackling sound, loss of peripherals control.
Thinking of replacing it with

Anyone got ideas? I'm on a budget too.
Graphics cards can't bottleneck CPUs.
The Pentium Dual-cores are good for daily use. But when it comes to gaming, they're not so good for gaming.
If you're playing GTA IV, get the Core 2 Quad.
The CPU i have now is going on 5 or more years old, could decay be causing it to overheat as much as it is?
I could play GTA decently on my last setup (Idk what motherboard, and nVidia 3850HD).
CPU cooler might be going bad. Also, have you ever cleaned the dust out of it?
what heatsink exactly, "very high quality" means shit all
if it's getting that hot then either the heatsink isn't as high quality as you think, you haven't applied thermal paste as well as you think, or you haven't mounted the heatsink properly
if you already replaced your mobo you should have gotten a new CPU at the same time, you'd have had better options than just 775

Dual core is fine at the moment for most games, it's just not particularly future proof.
