I wish Mario would die already. The series is so tired.
People want Mario, and when they think Mario they think this style. Why would they change the game mechanics to an extend they risk loosing faithful customers of the series for god knows how long. Also there's alot of "spin-off" Mario series out there.

It's called trying something new, why would you want to pay for 5 games that play exactly the same and look exactly the same? Yeah it might fail but at least they would learn from the failure to make it better next time.

Just think if they never made an actual 3d mario game because they didn't want to risk losing faithful customers with such a drastic change to the gameplay.
I wish Mario would die already. The series is so tired.
I just wish they'd give it a rest with the NSMB series. There's room for great modern Mario games (Mario 3D Land, Galaxy 2) but these NSMB games seem really cookie-cutter. I'm sure the level design and music is well-crafted, it's just boring at this point.

It was so lacking in pretty much every way involving gameplay. But it looked nice I guess.

I thought it was pretty good. The level design was great and the game was actually challenging. ...provided that you ignored the stupid help blocks, anyway.

I barely put any effort in. And then the whole "It's a 3D game" thing where the camera is uncontrollable was just stupid, I would rather have something truly 3D and challenging. It also screwed them over because it felt like they couldn't really do much variety of gameplay due to this.
They should do what capcom did for one of their new mega man's and make a new old-style with old graphics mario game, like SMW or something.

Some of the placements were really hard, but the bonus levels were really easy.
I ended the game with 750 lives
lol
Unfortunately I won't get the chance to try this one but I love the first two New SMB games.
But you guys are missing the point of this game IT'S ALL ABOUT THE COINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish they would make another Mario game with a consistent story that was actually somewhat character-driven, and used a wide range of the existing cast. It'd be thoroughly open world with an actually defined rendition of the Mushroom Kingdom, and most importantly, Waluigi would have an important role.
I wish Mario would die already. The series is so tired.
You know I've been disappointed by recent Mario games too but wishing death upon the franchise? I think that's a bit harsh. Besides, it's not really Mario's fault. He's just a character.
Honestly, this game feels more like a compilation of various designs and gimmicks from the New sub-series mixed in with a coin collecting gimmick to keep your attention; if you like more Mario and don't mind nothing new, just looking for fun, you might enjoy it. If you're hoping something's different other than Coin collection that actually brings something new to the table, then don't put down the cash for it otherwise. I mean, it's probably a better introduction to the New series if you don't want to go for the first New-SMB on the DS, but i'd honestly recommend that NSMB over this one. After the mixed-to-negative reception this game got, Nintendo will probably go back to the drawing board and try to think something up that is a bit more unique, one can hope (that isn't Mario Party; I've suffered enough agonizing defeat at the hands of that series).
Guys should I get NSMB2 or SM3DLand?
I still think I'm already sick of the "New" series of Mario games. Heck, I've been begging for Yoshi to be included, and he's only used for certain levels in the Wii game. And they keep including the damn raccoon tail, which I see NOTHING amazing about it. The cape was amazing. I want a GOOD legit 3D mario, in the vain of 64 or Sunshine. Galaxy was ok, but felt too linear to me. Sunshine was massive, giant levels, so many things to collect and earn. 64's worlds were ok sized as well, with tons of secrets, like the Owl ride and teleport on that snow mountain level.
why are you complaining about galaxy being linear when it was exactly like super mario 64 even the collecting the stars for each galaxy mirrored collecting stars from each of the portrait levels in sm64
Guys should I get NSMB2 or SM3DLand?
Super Mario 3D Land.

Sunshine's felt about the same as Galaxy to me though. You can tell because in Galaxy the paths to each objective is completely obvious whereas in 64, there was a certain way to go for each one but because each world was like one big sandbox, you really had to search for it.

I don't think that's true for galaxy but it's been awhile since i played it. Both are great games in their own respect though.
this happens in galaxy there are hidden stars that you can find unintentionally
No you're not getting it. In Sunshine and Galaxy the stars on the episode select screen MUST be completed in the order that they are presented. You cannot go out of order. In Mario 64 you can complete most of the episodes in whatever order you want, but you don't get any hints as to where they're located unless you do them in order. 3D Mario games in general have gotten progressively more linear with every generation. Sunshine had strict episode progression and Galaxy had that plus it was basically impossible to go the wrong way.
I love Mario games, and they're always good fun. But yeah, for the first time they're really milking one specific line of the franchise, they should give it a rest. I rarely have the patience to beat an entire Mario game anyway. I've never fully beaten Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy, none of them. Only 'long' Mario game I've ever beaten from start to finish was Super Mario World. I want Mario 64 non-handheld remake.
Nintendo should just get it on with another franchise instead. Mario's tits have been stretched into the sucking tubes and already are a mile long.
By failing to innovate, NSMB2 is easily the stalest game in the mainline Mario franchise.
yeah because all the other mario games are so revolutionary and innovative and this is the one which is going to be disappointing because it's the same. [editline]19th August 2012[/editline] mario is fun and on top of that very profitable for nintendo so I'm probably going to wind up buying it anyways. [editline]19th August 2012[/editline] I remember when everyone used to shit their pants at a new mario game because they just wanted more now everyone's saying how shitty it is because they keep releasing them.
