Iain Fogerty’s arrest, which took place at a Fortitude Valley intersection where LNP and Labor campaign teams had lined up in opposition, was blasted by Labor senator Claire Moore as “just ridiculous”. Fogerty was released on watch-house bail and is due to appear in the Brisbane magistrates court on 4 February. He told Guardian Australia he was still seeking legal advice, but declined to comment further. A police spokesman said a 44-year-old man had been charged with public nuisance but declined to elaborate. Moore, who was campaigning with the Labor candidate Grace Grace against the LNP member for Brisbane Central, Robert Cavallucci, told the Courier-Mail the man was not associated with the Labor campaign but had mingled with the LNP.
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jan/08/queensland-man-arrested-waving-lnp-campaigners-im-with-stupid-t-shirt?CMP=soc_568
This is in Australia Those are American jokes Pick one.
I thought Australia was America only upside down.
This is in Australia Those are American jokes Pick one.
Woah I made a terrible mistake. I judged the articles location based on the flagdog of the OP.
How is this legal? There is no way this could possibly hold up in court, right?
Good to see Queensland upholding its long tradition of being the worst state in Australia
nanny state
Is a nuisance and gets arrested for being a nuisance. I fail to see the problem.
These guys should really try to remember what that word "liberal" they have in their name means.
The magistrate will literally face palm and throw this case out. Far more important things to attend to.
Is a nuisance and gets arrested for being a nuisance. I fail to see the problem.
What, expressing one's opinion is termed as nuisance? Fucks sake mate, you remind me of Joh Bjelke Peterson, for the fact that they did not tolerate others opinions, for someone who was supposed to represent all Queenslanders as Premier; which he obviously did not, and had to resort to police corruption, electoral corruption, separation of powers and using the police as a group of thugs to threaten and assault innocent civilians to hand over protection money or to hide illegal government activities. And for those who don't understand Australian politics: the LNP are the equivalent to the British Conservatives / UKIP and the Australian Labor party is similar to their British counterparts.
Maybe he was arrested by the fashion police.
Good to see Queensland upholding its long tradition of being the worst state in Australia
Western Australia is [editline]8th January 2015[/editline]
And for those who don't understand Australian politics: the LNP are the equivalent to the British Conservatives / UKIP and the Australian Labor party is similar to their British counterparts.
LNP is the equivalent of the Conservatives in the UK, not UKIP. While they do have a pretty shit foreign policy plan it is on no way equal as UKIP's
Good to see Queensland upholding its long tradition of being the worst state in Australia
I'd have to say Western Australia is, with Queensland coming in second. On topic, what a load of shit this is.
Western Australia is
Western Australia isn't even part of our country m8.
Woah I made a terrible mistake. I judged the articles location based on the flagdog of the OP.
this is literally the dumbest thing I have ever heard
Are Australians not guaranteed freedom of speech? Or does it not apply to signs/shirts/etc? Or is this just a bullshit illegal arrest?
Are Australians not guaranteed freedom of speech? Or does it not apply to signs/shirts/etc? Essentially the Federal government, or any part that executes judicial jurisdiction (aka. AFP, any state / territorial police) can withhold and revoke your rights at any time with out any prior notice / reasoning whatsoever.
Western Australia isn't even part of our country m8.
Nah Tasmania isn't a state, western Australia is just there basically [editline]9th January 2015[/editline]
Are Australians not guaranteed freedom of speech?
How is this legal? There is no way this could possibly hold up in court, right?
His shirt is pointing to an individual, if it just said "I'm with stupid" without doing an indication to any person it would be fine.
This is literally high school teacher whining when someone wore a "fcuk" shirt because it's "offensive". If your party leaders can't be insulted and criticized, then whats the point of an election? The guy wasn't attacking him or throwing shit and making a riot, he just stood there with a shirt.

I thought it mentioned free speech. Doesn't that still apply to Australia since it is technically a commonwealth?
Western Australia isn't even part of our country m8.
Shame the mining in WA pretty much supports the rest of the country. I live in WA and.. well.. it is shit, i cant wait to move over east.
Shame the mining in WA pretty much supports the rest of the country. I live in WA and.. well.. it is shit, i cant wait to move over east.
if you want to have to compete with thousands of others looking for work anywhere along the eastern seaboard then don't. Employment (especially full-time permanent) is decreasing, unemployment on the rise. Best to stay a little while longer or you might end up moving over here for nothing
We aren't governed by UK laws, unless they're specifically copied into our laws they don't apply.
It's actually the otherway around. The laws of the States of Australia stem from UK laws, but can be replaced by laws of Parliament of the State. There are still old UK laws that apply which have not been replaced, and some even adopted into local law by reaffirmation in judgments.
