But a building that operated as a US embassy in Ghana was a fake, the US State Department says. The enterprise, which issued fraudulently obtained legitimate visas, counterfeit visas, and other false identification documents, was overseen by figures from Ghanaian and Turkish crime rings working in cahoots with corrupt Ghanaian officials, the US State Department said in a statement. It operated three days a week in Accra, the capital. The State Department did not say how many people may have entered the United States illegally using documentation issued by the crime ring, nor did it say how the ring may have obtained official documents. Just wow. I mean, I'm not surprised since it's Africa, but... wow.
I read about that, really amazing it lasted that long. Police also brought down a fake Dutch embassy.
Even China couldn't fake something to such a level
So what happens to the real embassy now?
Revoke visas to all that got them.
Revoke visas to all that got them.
no shit but how will the US tell the difference between visas gotten from the actual embassy and this fake embassy since both gave out legitimate visas?
Revoke visas to all that got them.
arent some of those fake? how can you revoke fake VISAs? also, its extremely hard to track people after they entered the US, or else you guys wouldnt have illegal immigrants
I hope those who (reasonably) thought the visas were valid are given reasonable treatment so they might continue their stay in the U.S. until is all sorted - Assuming they voluntarily come forward to have the legitimate process followed.
I'm interested at how they fraudulently obtained legitimate visas. Having had to obtain a US visa before I can say it is not easy, even for tourists ones.
