I'm on board, but I still want that first person alien bounty hunting parkour game.

Maybe one day Human Head will get back on their feet and make a spiritual successor of sorts. Or an indie dev with make a more streamed back version with procgen worlds.
I really do wish the new game wasn't named Prey though. There's really no purpose to it other than to piss off fans of the original game that were waiting for a true sequel.
I mean, Arkane chose the name not because they wanted to make a spiritual successor, but because Bethesda just had the name sitting in a pile waiting to be used. They probably could've called the game something else entirely, and none of this bitching about Prey/Prey 2 would have ever come up. Hell, maybe even a few more people might have been excited for it.
If you're turned off from the game because it's title is the same as a different game then I don't know what to say.
Probably the most shallow reason ever to dismiss something for.

What if you're turned off because it's a reboot instead of a sequel? It seems disrespectful to cancel a sequel and then re announce it as a "re imagining" of the IP.

If the previous game didn't exist; would any/everything suddenly change?

If the previous game didn't exist i don't think they'd even make this game in the first place
Thought prey 2 got cancelled, glad to see it's not

It would have just been called something else.
I don't understand the mental gymnastics you have to go through to think buying an IP only to use it for brand recognition and nothing else is okay.
Like if this happened with some other publisher, people would shit themselves.

It did, this has nothing to do with Prey 1 or Prey 2.

The original Prey 2 was a reboot, too. It had literally nothing in common with the original.

You know except all the things it had in common with the original.
I am so tired of hearing people complain about how Prey 2 got cancelled and how they are insulted and betrayed at the name being used on this game instead of talking about the game.
It's time to move on already and stop being childishly bitter.

There is a whole thread about the old HL2 Beta.
People get disappointed when they look forward to something and it gets canceled, especially when they reasons why are so scummy.

How is Prey 2 getting cancelled "scummy."
How is Prey 2 getting cancelled "scummy."
How is a publisher trying to force a dev to be bought out, while lying about the whole thing NOT scummy?
How is Prey 2 getting cancelled "scummy."
There have been rumours that Bethesda tried to kill Prey 2 by being uncooperative and making Human Head lose shit ton of money so that they would give the IP back.
Something like that, at least

ok. like what?
(genuine question though, not sarcastic or "YEAH, LIKE WHAT MATE?")

From what we know your character was on the plane you see crash in the first game, and you start out the game at that point, and that Tommy was a big character in the game.
That is really all we know, there were probably more connections throughout the game, but it doesn't really matter at this point.

By the way, I do think this game looks interesting, and the more I see of it the more I want to play it. I just wish we could have gotten both games.
Yep. I have nothing against this game (I think it looks sort of cool actually, and Mick Gordon/Chris Avellone working on it bodes well), I just don't know why it's called Prey outside of pure laziness and vague name recognition.
If Arkane had just come up with their own name, none of this "drama" would've happened, and we'd have a potentially awesome brand new IP.

Except that's just a rumor that makes no sense economically and is basically shooting yourself in the foot? It's just conspiracy theory bullshit.
This is the best summary I've found about Prey 2

Really shitty everything that happened.
