Also, a growing workforce prompts companies to expand and upgrade equipment, making the economy more productive, he said. An inflow of immigrants equal to 1 percent of the increase in employment helps boost overall incomes by 0.6 percent to 0.9 percent, according to Peri’s research. That means that immigration pushed wages up by $5,100 on average from 1990 to 2007 after adjusting for inflation, accounting for 20 percent to 25 percent of the gain during those years, he said. The paper comes as U.S. hiring shows signs of cooling. A Labor Department report on Sept. 3 may show that private payroll rose by 47,000 this month after a 71,000 gain in July, and the unemployment rate rose to 9.6 percent, according to the median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News. “The painfully slow recovery in the labor market has restrained growth in labor income, raised uncertainty about job security and prospects, and damped confidence,” Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke said at the Kansas City Fed’s annual monetary symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, on Aug. 27. [/release] Can we get some immigration reform already?
Immigration isn't a bad thing. I welcome anyone to come here. We just need to make it easier for people to come legally. Plus, Easier immigration would be an incentive to not jump the fence and live as an illegal, therefore increasing the chances that the people we catch jumping the fence are probably doing it for criminal reasons. [editline]01:51AM[/editline] It shouldn't take 20 years to become a citizen. That's just ridiculous. Should be no more than a year.
How do you stop having illegal immigrants? Make it easier to be a legal immigrant instead.
-snip- argument invalid.
Neverminding that the study in the article indicates they don't cause a net economic harm, and that your source only cites costs, not taxes... They do pay taxes: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/illegal-immigrants-paying-taxes-621300.html http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/markets/economy/illegal-immigration-provides-benefits-states-despite-rhetoric/ http://www.nawbo.biz/do-illegal-immigrants-pay-taxes/ http://illuminate.newsvine.com/_news/2010/05/04/4239456-many-illegal-immigrants-pay-up-at-tax-time-usatodaycom
No they pay plenty of taxes [editline]12:34AM[/editline] oooo ninjad by someone with sources
No fucking wonder construction sites hire immigrants, they actually work instead of standing around doing nothing.
Where are all the people on FP who oppose immigration and always use the argument that they take our jobs and don't pay taxes? I guess you won't see them in this thread.
Hey, cool, now I can cite the government as evidence for my arguments why immigration, illegal or otherwise, is good for our economy.
Well, hiring immigrants gives much more positive than negative. First of all, they work cheap. Then they also usually work better than locals because they need money to survive and are not inbred lazy asses.
What's your point?
you can't just stay away can you?
America is still up an running because immigrants are willing to do the shitty and underpaid jobs to pursue the American dream. Without the masses of these poor buggers, I think life quality would quickly decline over there.

maybe they just wanna chill the fuuck out bro
It should be pretty obvious why the government doesn't want to make them legal citizens. Legal citizens have rights and freedoms, as well as social benefits. You can hire illegal immigrants for 5 dollars an hour doing long days with no workman's comp, you can't do that for Americans. It's not right, it's just how it is.
Please tell me you're exaggerating, please, I don't know much about immigration, but shit, up in Canada it only takes five years.
Nope. [img_thumb]http://a.imageshack.us/img808/88/immigrationus.jpg[/img_thumb]
Wow, that's depressing as hell.
It took me 10 years to become a citizen.
It shouldn't take 20 years to become a citizen. That's just ridiculous. Should be no more than a year.
It doesn't take 20 years, shut the fuck up. I have German friends who immigrated here, and they got their green card after three years. Also, immigrants (more so Mexicans) do take jobs, and effect us. Honestly, if they were peaceful, and willing to learn English, that would be great. I could care less if that were the case. BUT, that isn't, and it turns out they effect me in a negative way. I can't get a fast food job because I have to be bilingual. And not like the Spanish that you speak in Spanish class. Have you ever heard a native Spanish speaker speak? It's a flow of noises, there's no enunciation. So if you aren't a native speaker, you can't understand, or get that job. Also, get the forms to immigrate while you're still in your country. And if you're country is a piece of shit, sorry, come over here, but leave your violent culture behind. Do you know how much my town, Santa Rosa, suffers from gang violence? Someone down the street from me got stabbed to death in their own house by a group of Mexicans at a house party. Also, don't give the whole "Canada would do [insert what Canada would do]". Canada would deport illegal immigrants in an INSTANT. Also, the reason our health care is shit? Illegals. Did you know if you get hurt and go to the ER, they can't deny you treatment? So what do you think you do if you aren't a citizen? Free health care from the ER. And they do it for just about anything, then they cant pay. That's why we're trying to do health care reform, because we're losing shitloads of money. EDIT: My highschool science teacher taught me something. When there is a research project, always look at who's doing the research. "FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF SAN FRANCISCO" Seriously? A lot of information from SF is gonna be hard-core leftist. Also, before any retaliation posts come at me, post where you're from. I'll start, California.
ive been living in the usa since i was 6, im 16 now, and only recently got my greencard. the fuck is this shit? my mom's been living here 13 years, and she got her greencard a few months before me, is all. lets not forget the amount of money you have to pay for these applications. think 5,000$. oh and to top it off, my grandma wasn't allowed to come to visit from ukraine for my mom's wedding. why? immigration is fucked. that's why. [editline]02:49PM[/editline] hey do you know why there's gang violence? its because drugs are profitable. very profitable. so is people trafficking across the border.

I hope there will be more immigrants in US to make it stop being so imperialist and nationalist.
