Banning personal use of campaign funds is a legislative priority of Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam and was part of the integrity agenda last year of GOP gubernatorial nominee Ed Gillespie.
Republicans on a Senate committee on Tuesday sunk a bill to do just that — a bill sponsored by one of their own.
Virginia law allows a legislator to use campaign money for anything, except when closing out a campaign committee. Some lawmakers have reported expenditures on meals, gasoline or fancy hotel rooms, raising questions about whether the expenses are truly campaign-related.
Sen. Jill Holtzman Vogel, R-Fauquier, filed Senate Bill 592 to prohibit personal use of campaign money.
Does the gop understand the concept of foresight? This is something probably like 99% of the people support.

The GOP is on its way out in VA and I think the senate is blocking as many bills as they possible can before that happens

Maryland is solid dem so it would be kind of funny for both states bordering DC to be blue states when the gop controls the federal government. (DC is solid blue as well)

The governor is a republican though.
Not super related to this article directly, but in Illinois it's pretty common for political funds to be spent on things like season tickets for sports teams, which is pretty crazy stupid. I know for sure one group has season tickets to the Cubs, Sox, Bulls, and Blackhawks. I get spending money on campaign related things like food, gas, hotels, etc. but some of this shit is ridiculous and should be stopped. (I found this report talking about one team: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/10/05/2-investigators-top-political-committees-spending-campaign-cash-on-cubs-tickets/). It's a stupid issue that crosses party lines and that linked report barely scrapes the surface of, seeing as that only covers one of the four largest teams, or five+ if we include downstaters who may like Saint Louis more than Chicago.

Not only that, but DC is the deepest blue part of this country. DC has literally NEVER gone red in a presidential election in the entire time theyve been able to vote in the presidential election

I think Puerto Rico would be a solid blue state as well, maybe that's why they're both not states yet
