• 3D smartphone with 3D camera and 3D screen?

Hello. I wanted a smartphone (Android) that can capture 3D images and show them on its 3D screen. I've seen several models, but I'm not up to date on which is the best one currently. Can you guys point out which is the best one? Or is there any reason for not getting one? Some kind of deal-breaker? Thank you in advance.
Phones with 3D displays are always an extremely niche thing. The last one to actually release outside of china/japan/india was in 2012 There's the ZTE axon 7 max, but you have to import it from china (Assuming it'll even work on your network), and it doesn't even have a proper 3D camera Overall they're really not worth it, since you're just paying more for an extra gimmick that nothing supports
I think the up and coming RED Hydrogen phone has all the 3D stuff but that's fairly expensive.
Or should I get a Nintendo New 3DS instead
3D phone sounds like a stupid and pointless gimmick tbh at that point just bother with VR and thats it, or a 3ds. Waste of time otherwise
But the 3DS camera is only 0.3Mp? I was hoping a 3D phone would be better
Nobody cares about 3D photos or phones. If you really want to make 3D photos, make a tripod where you can put two good quality cameras on next to eachother and trigger the shot for both at the same time and view them either using a VR thing for a phone or crosseye it.
The problem with 3D phones is that you sacrifice too much for the function of 3D. To have useful 3D, you have to have two cameras a decent distance from each other, which adds cost and bulk. You also have to have a face-tracking 3d display, which are pretty bad for viewing non-3d content and still only work when the phone is held steadily at a near-perpendicular angle to your face. The 3ds gets away with it because it has a resolution of only 400 x 240 per eye. It's a lot more practical to carry a 3D camera around with a regular phone, and view your content in a google cardboard-like HMD. If you want to carry around a neat example of 3d interaction in a phone, however, you can check out Project Tango, namely the Phab 2 Pro and Zenfone AR.
When the 3DS came out, everyone was amazed at its ability to show 3D without any glasses. The problem was that it had a big downfall, which was that you had to position the 3DS a very specific way for the effect to work correctly, which is why the 2DS now exists and many people just turn off the 3D feature on their 3DS's. HTC tried to play on the whole 3D-screen-without-glasses hype with their HTC Evo 3D, but again it suffered from the same issue. Nowadays, when people think of 3D it's more related to VR than anything. You might be able to find a phone with 2 back cameras for 3D, but it's very unlikely you're going to find one with the 3DS-style 3D screen. As the above poster said, you're best getting a normal smartphone then having a separate 3D camera. It's possible that in about 5 years time, phones will be much more geared towards VR, including having 2 back cameras, but we're not there yet

The New 3DS was the actual response to the limited field of 3D vision, using head tracking, which mostly fixes the problem.
I still have my LG optimus 3D lying in a cupboard. It's fun to play with, but really has no actual use. No one but owners of such devices can view your 3D photos. Also the screen is terrible.
I used to have the Evo 3D. It was a lot of fun to mess around with but it was largely just a gimmick. I wouldn't recommend choosing a phone for this feature alone.
Perhaps you can do something with an S8 and the Gear VR, or maybe even a Google Cardboard. They split the screen in two iirc, allowing you to see in 3D. You can take two pictures next to each other and load each of them to a half of a screen and see shit in 3D. You might even be able to do stuff with landscapes, taking photos like a meter apart to see the landscape in 3D.

Better to just carry around a dedicated 3D camera and load the pictures into your Cardboard media viewer.

That was on very close range even. You need to make two photos, what is the tripod going to do if you need to move the camera anyway?

I tend to use a body part as a height reference and then just align the features of the previous picture the same way.

One right one left, put the phone in one, take a picture, move to the other mount. I did a lot of 3D imagery work with every kind of screen (including autostereo and cardboard-type smartphone screens), and while you can get away with a lot in a still image, you really really want to make sure the phones are perfectly lined up and moved only laterally. I suppose I was overstating on "this won't work at all", though. It's alright for some pictures, but try not to stare at them too long or you will get a headache, first gen 3DS style.
So I bought a New 3DS. The camera quality is low, but I swear the 3D photos are worthwhile. And the 3D videos are nothing short of magic. I can safely call the photos and videos as 'memory bank' with how they recreate the spatial depth, its like peeking into a window of your past. It helps tremendously that the New 3d screen is so accessible, I can show it to anybody and theyll be able to appreciate it without needing unwieldy goggles and hardwares. Currently just waiting for that RED Hydrogen phone to come out to see what it is actually. Now just to entertain a dumb thought of mine; what if we use the 3DS to record pronzs..? Maybe I should call one of the girl over to test it... :s: EDIT: I'll be danged, Reddit beats me to it. Gg
