"I think the last PC game that was really balls-to-the-wall [from a technological standpoint] was Crysis 1."
I don't suppose he's looked at the graphical options on Serious Sam 3, it's not the best looking game by far but the amount of care placed into the engine is phenomenally outstanding.

How many games before on since Crysis 1 had career opportunities in the exciting field of Machine Gun Lumberjack?

While very nice to have all those options, it's not necessarily unique in having those specific features in the engine itself.

If Crytek wanted to they would've crammed just as many options in the UI that let you tweak every little thing, but they chose not to because frankly it's unnecessary to have so many goddamn options. Unless being able to choose the texture rescaling filter is conducive to my experience rather than just merging that and texture resolution option together to a single 'texture quality' slider.
He's become my favourite developer now. I fucking love what he's doing with Star Citizen. Infact, brb giving some money for his kickstarter.
I will get this game when its out for sure. Looks promising.
