US President Barack Obama has told President Vladimir Putin in a 90-minute phone call that Russia has violated international law with its incursion into Ukraine, and warned of US and allied reprisals.
The White House said on Saturday that Obama called on Putin to pull Russian troops back to their bases in Crimea and warned that continued violation of international law by Moscow would lead to further "political and economic isolation".
The call came as Obama's national security team met to draw up US responses to the escalating crisis, after Russia's parliament gave Putin the formal go ahead to send forces to Ukraine and officials in Kiev said 6000 forces had already been sent to Crimea.
"President Obama expressed his deep concern over Russia's clear violation of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity," the White House said in a detailed statement about the call on Saturday.
Obama told Putin that his actions were a "breach of international law, including Russia's obligations under the UN Charter, and of its 1997 military basing agreement with Ukraine".
"The United States calls on Russia to de-escalate tensions by withdrawing its forces back to bases in Crimea and to refrain from any interference elsewhere in Ukraine," the statement said.
Obama also warned Putin that the people of Ukraine had the right to determine their own future.
"Russia's continued violation of international law will lead to greater political and economic isolation," the statement added.
Had to change the title because it sounded like Obama confessing
Hold onto your butts. Gonna be a bumpy ride.
This can only end badly.

Ha, funny
This literally means nothing unless actual action is taken. He's already said clearly that action should be taken if Russia puts troops in Ukraine... which it has now done in Crimea. So we'll see.
Not to sound all doom and gloom, but does he really think a 90-minute phone call is going to make Putin shudder with fear?
President Obama of America has denounced you warning other nations you are not to be trusted!
Wonder what Obama's "Red Line" is gonna be this time

USS Arizona monument sunk, zeroes of sailors killed.
Oh, why does the US always have to be the big man in situations, can we not just sit this out. From what it seems right now, nothing is extremely major, however the threat of war is pretty high.
A country just got invaded. Yeah let's just chill and let it happen.
Snip
It's whatever you want to think, but some people are highly against war. What can the US do? Intervene and get themselves fucked? I mean, yeah, the situation in Crimea is fucked and the Ukraine needs help, but at this point war is definitely not needed.
If you know of another way to help them I'm all ears.
Hey Putin, whatcha thinkin' about?
Oh I don't know, violations of international law I guess.
I can hear putin's response.
What are you going to do about it, World Police?
All I can see is Russia and the states deadlocking into another cold war.
Uh oh
Say, I heard that in 1994 the US and UK signed a treaty to protect the Ukranian borders. So if this escalates, it won't just be America getting involved, it'll probably be Britain as well.
Here it is, the Ukraine Bilateral Investment Treaty.

Obama wont do anything.
jfc america stay the fuck out world politics
the US isn't going to shoot russians lol, this is some tom clancy level shit, at worst, they might send arms for the western part of ukraine, to help them defend themselves, which could likely result into a partition of the ukraine(and this is still waaaay out there into tom clancy fanfiction), russia simply wants their damn warm-water port, and likely for crimea to be more autonomous(like south ossetia).
plus the eastern side of ukraine happens to be poorest side and russia's economy isn't exactly well to begin with, so "partitioning" would be incredibly stupid.
also this isn't georgia, ukraine is big, fucking georgia managed to shoot down 20 russian planes during the 2008 war(this is also counting those who were damaged beyond repair, but still managed to return to their base), sure russia would still win, but they would take a bloody nose in the process.

Not our responsibility or problem. A lot of the shit we get ourselves into start out by Washington shopping for war in places it doesn't need to be in. They fucking LOVE war.
But go ahead. Plan to cut the defense budget and reduce the size of the army before provoking a war with Russia. Makes a lot of sense
Nothing will come of this.
uhhhh America isn't the one provoking war.
Cold War 2: Putin Blue.
