I am planning on purchasing an arcade game cabinet kit from mameroom.com, but it doesn't include the system used to play the games. I already know how to program for almost anything, but I still must ask: what systems to arcade games use? Like the ones you can find in the arcades nowadays, Time Crisis, PacMan, VirtuaCop, etc. Only the really expensive kits off of their site have systems included, and it's just an emulator. I would like to program my own games, so if anyone knows how the systems work, please tell.
I wish they sold the old racing ones.
Most of the arcade games had custom hardware. Emulators bypass the need for different hardware for each game. You'll just have to use an emulator, sorry.
Also, be careful with using roms that you have no license to. It's illegal.
Put a reasonably powered PC in there and then install MAME on it.
Done.
