• Ram Usage Questions.

The other day my brother brought home a used computer. I started using it for a bit but noticed it was using 1.5gb of ram with no programs open. Is this normal? If not how do I find out what could be causing this? I am using Windows 64 Bit Service pack 1. Its pretty normal in my experience with Windows 7 (Vista probably does it as well). It uses a pre-fetching feature that tries to use your RAM for frequently used apps, even while they aren't open so that they open faster. If you system needs that memory while your playing a game or another RAM heavy application, it will automatically free up those resources.
