If you can afford it, yeah, at this point that's the way better choice. Having a Vive allows you to play all existing VR games, while an Oculus will only allow you to play like half of them, if that even.

the Rift has official support for the higher budget titles
the Rift's hand tracked controllers will be out by the end of the year; all Vive games are already fully compatible with the Rift's controllers (which also monitor the position of your fingers)
the Rift hardware all around is more comfortable to use and wear
the amount of high-budget VR titles will double by the end of this year; if you value better hardware, being patient will deliver the best experience

vive users in the VR thread here on FP are unironically attaching fans to their headsets to cool them down, since the Vive is a sweat-magnet

1. I did that mostly as a joke
2. It's fucking hot here and AC isn't that effective
3. I'm unironically a genius for coming up with the idea and I expect royalties in full!

you're by far not the first person to suggest it as a valid solution to the heat the headset puts off, an issue noted by comparative reviews back at launch

I'm totally the first person and I should totally get paid by HTC because... uhhh... I thought of it! Totally!

Better choice? Subjective. But room scale tracking is insanely worth it yeah, and personally I got tired of how it took over 5 months to get a rift so I changed to a vive instead. Actually getting something is nice after all.
The touch controllers are solid, but so is the vive.
It's a pretty even match name for the room scale, the extra cost is worth it, but at the same time, it's an extra cost

the rift's controllers have been exhaustively demonstrated to perform equally well in a room sized environment

Yes, as it is the complete package at the moment. Only until Oculus Touch comes out, which seems to be favoured slightly more than the vive wands going off some articles. That, along with the lightness, comfort and the slightly sharper image then the rift will be the go to choice at the end of the year.
But really, to the average consumer, come end of 2016 they will seem like the same product with Vive favouring a bit better room scale and the rift favouring a bit better ergonomics.
i'd love to get one but i'm still unsure of whether or not it's overpriced and i should wait first or it actually does cost around 800$ to make one of those
hell, if they ever drop the price

See if you can get a demo of it somewhere. If you have the money and seem optimistic about it, I'd say go for it. Worst case scenario is you'll have to return or sell it.

I actually did experience a demo and i really want to buy it, just not at 800. maybe at most 500, but i still need a vr-ready gpu too.
